Iâve just seen a report on the illegal puppies entering UK, as they can be less than 50% of the cost of a similar puppy bought from a registered breeder and they are often in poor health with forged 'pet passports'. Surely, the only way to stop this is for people who want a dog to either insist on seeing the puppies with their mother, or go to one of the many organisations who are looking to rehome dogs and be less choosy as to which breed of dog they have. Agreed, unfortunately there are too many unscrupulous buyers out there that either because they want a bargain or through ignorance don't ask to see the parents and dont ask for the history etc
Talking of dogs, we've had a stressful one with our little fella this week. Little Clive (the miniature sausage dog) seemed to be in a bit of discomfort the other day so we took him to the vets who identified a bulging in his spine. Referred him for an MRI and x-ray the next day and it turns out he had a problem with some of his discs, which is pretty common for the breed, though as he's only 4 we didn't think it would be a problem yet. He wasn't in too bad a way and could still use his back legs, bowels and all that but we decided to go down the surgery route - particularly as his insurance is fully paid up. He has his operation yesterday and I got a call from the vet a little while ago to tell me he's made "a remarkable recovery" and is charging around absolutely full of beans already! Good lad Clive, even though it is a fairly common operation with 95% success rate I have to admit I was absolutely bricking it in case something went wrong. Sounds like it all went great however and he's coming home tomorrow!! Just thankful we had the insurance, the bill is currently standing at four and a half grand and counting.....
