Looking on the Twittersphere and saw some of these well deserved plaudits for a highly-committed (and most-fouled) player.... from a variety of Fulham Fans of course:

Karagounis was fantastic. He can really pick a pass, what a performance.

I wonder if we can get another year out of Karagounis. He hardly looks a spent force in PL football

He is superb at persistently pressing the opposition defence…which Berba doesn't do enough of. Quality.

Puts in 110% every game and never puts a foot wrong apart from the odd misplaced pass.

Giorgios Karagounis, plays every game likes its his last. His passion is incredible.

Karagounis superb despite frequent assaults from Villa's industrial number 17.

Absolutely unbelievable from Giorgios Karagounis today. Class act. The King of Greece!

Man of the match for me the brilliant Karagounis, what an attitude, what a veteran.

How good Karagounis must have been 10 years ago! I feel I really missed something...

He is exactly the sort of player everyone has cited as necessary in January. Passing CM who can score goals.

No player can complain about being 'tired' from playing midweek, Karagounis played 70ish minutes after playing midweek and he's mid 30s!

Karagounis continues to be one of my favourite players. If he was younger he'd be the key player for us to build around. I love his passion: it's that kind of passion which keeps me going to see Fulham every week (and has been sorely lacking this year!).

He was absolute mustard today, can't commend him highly enough. Coincidently, we were also saying how good he must have been at his peak. I'm pretty sure he was captain and/or instrumental to Greece winning the Euros almost a decade ago.

Parker, Sidders and him are the balanced midfield we've been crying out for all season. Let's hope they all stay fit.

Says it all, really. How many players have started playing PL football at 35 years old and managed as much of an impact as he has?

All of the above is spot on. He is still a top player. Lovin' the Karagounis!

The guy loves it here. He has declined offers to go back to Greece.

May be we should have kept Murphy and play a half each!

It's not ideal having a playmaker who rarely lasts 90 minutes, but as with Murphy before him the 60-75 minutes we generally get are well worth the use of a sub. Whoever it was who said that renewing his contract was a mistake should own up and eat their words!

My favourite thing about him is that he is always hobbling or wearing the effects of his dedication. He leaves it all on the pitch. You can help but respond to his enthusiasm - he is one of my all time favourite players and its great to discover this wonderful career he has behind him. He is a natural leader and, although not our captain, a player the others can look to for inspiration. If they have any doubts about their own ability or the crowd he shows that all it takes it 100% dedication and everyone will be behind you.

He and Parker drove the team yesterday. George was immense yesterday. He is a proper legend!

What about when he knew he was going subbed he made his way to the center circle to waste a bit more time, Villa fans less than impressed. Made me laugh.

Also the big hug between Rene and himself when he came off was good to see. Nice to know Rene appreciates his passion and that's why he's in the team. He will have set a good example for the likes of Kasami and Christensen who were watching from the sidelines. Anyone know how to make him 10 years younger?

He must have been on the blower to his mate to get him to replace CL football, top of the table in Greece with a relegation scrap in the PL. Kara, I take my hat off to you. Sand to the Arabs springs to mind! Also it does indicate the club and coaching staff feel we can escape the claws of the championship.

So the old man not only commits himself as a player but is using influence back home to help us stay up.
