My old mukka Shaks has mentioned this, so I thought it would be worth picking up on. As far as curses in sport goes, we all know about the Boston Red Sox and their curse after they sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees ... it was sporting suicide, and pretty much parallels Leeds selling That Frenchie to the Scum ... The Frog was to Scum what Ruth was to the Yankees, completely turned their fortunes around and empires were created. Damn!!

Another long time curse hit Chicago, where both the Cubs and White Sox struggled for decades, until the Sox won the World Series a few years ago. The Cubs however, well they just keep on sucking. Its a mystery, because they have the money, their ground is always full, they have the most celebrity fans who turn up and sing Take Me Out To The Ball Game every home game ... tne Cubs are a legendary club, yet they always finish at the bottom and their season is over halfway through every year. When they finally had a chance to get to the World Series, they suffered from the Bartman incident in 2004 against the Florida Marlins, and the curse was well and truly cemented.

So to Leeds United. Our club started off badly, with the original club Leeds City being disbanded in 1919 due to financial cheating, and from the ashes Leeds United was born. Why do I make this point? I believe this was the start of the curse, which would manifest itself just when the club was on the brink of greatness in 2002. You see, the Chicago White Sox saw their curse start in 1919 when eight of their players were banned in disgrace for accepting bribes to throw a game during the World Series, and that team became known as the Black Sox. For reference, there is an excellent movie called Eight Men Out that's worth seeing to understand the story behind the scandal.

    The year again? 1919 ...

Leeds, even with their superb teams led by Revie and Wilkinson, never really did themselves justice. Revie came so close to a warehouse full of trophies, yet always fell just short due to so many different circumstances. Wilko simply couldn't push on after winning the title, with the low point being the crushing 3-0 League Cup Final defeat to Villa (this performance would resurface again in the playoff Final against Watford a few years later).

When O'Leary transformed the team and his babes began to run riot, it seemed Leeds were destined to finally rule again, this time with the promise of even better times ahead. In January 2001 at a packed Elland Road and live to millions across the globe, Leeds destroyed West Ham 3-0 with a certain Robbie Fowler leading the way with a sublime display. Leeds were top of the Prem and gathering momentum as they pushed on. Then came Safraz Najeib.

Suddenly there was chaos as the media circus descended on Leeds to report on the Bowyer/Woodgate trial. Our season was effectively over in a heartbeat, and what followed was the complete meltdown of the club, aided over the next few years by a media hungry for its demise. We all know what followed, culminating in Leeds being owned by Bates who simply took every penny he could from the club, leaving us where we are today, still trying to recover.

I am sure that if we go into detail over the decades we will uncover a lot of bad luck, so do you think we are cursed? If so, what can we do about it? Maybe Shaks can piss against the George Best statue? Who knows .....

Wickers, we've been **** for ten years now, a club of our stature being passed by Swansea, Hull, Wigan, Cardiff, Southampton, Norwich, QPR, Fulham ... think you get it. How?

Years of mis-management has put us where we are.

Still, I'll pee in all four corners of the ground if you think that will help <laugh>

Great read though Billy. Leeds United, always the bridesmaids <wah>
