Both very good managers for us & I know Nige has not cut his managerial teeth in the Prem yet apart from may be caretaker roles at Newcastle & WBA but looking at all the club records he has smashed, in a bloody hard league, Im starting to sway in the direction of N.P & his staff.
One thing is for sure, I'm so glad the club both got him back to us & resisted calls and temptation to get rid, when things were going wrong !

    Thoughts ?

    Thoughts?

    2

Either you were very very young during Martin O'Neil's tenure or you are perhaps an alien from the planet Tharg

Martin O'Neil - got us promoted in his first season in charge from a disadvantaged position ... took us to 3 cup finals in four years winning our first silverware (twice) since the 1960s (and we'd only won one trophy in our history before) so into Europe twice ... signed the likes of Muzzy Izzet, Neil Lennon and Matt Elliott (amongst an array of astute signings) orchestrated victories at Old Trafford and Anfield and dumped Arsenal, Man United, Villa (and a very good Leeds side) out of cup competitions ... compared with ...

... we are currently top of the Championship ... although having our best season for some time admittedly and most enjoyably ...

How would you compare Malky McKay, Ian Holloway and Nigel Adkins to Martin O'Neil as managers? ... fact is you wouldn't - they achieved nothing near in comparison ... but at this point in time they have all achieved more than Nigel - they have actually achieved a promotion to the Prem (Holloway twice) ... and that is all.

As FF says there is no comparison .................. yet. Give Pearson his dues though, the team spirit being displayed matches that MO'N produced. Long may it continue.

It will take one hell of a Manager to surpass what MON achieved but boy what a ride it will be if it happens. I hope Pearson is the man to take us there. Certainly in regard to achievements he is still behind even O'Farrell and Adams but as we know and BFM has pointed out this team is setting new records and playing great football while doing it.

.. the only thing about this record is that it was perviously held by Brian Little (as manager) ... some of the most turgid football I've watched in supporting the club for over 40 years ... his formations could contain as many as 5 centre-halves!!!

MON achieved more for us than any other manager and it was good times for us all! But in the end i was glad to see him go, so much so that I would have drove him to Celtic myself. He would never commit himself to Leicester and when clubs were inquiring about him eg Leeds and Everton he had us pleading for him to stay! Well he went and he could not get the same success ever again, Don't say what about Celtic even Stringer would win trophy's up there. He finished up being sacked by Villa and Sunderland, just another case of a manager thinking that they are bigger and better than my beloved Leicester City. I would like to think Pearson is the more genuine and loyal manager and hope he can achieve success here that equals or betters MON.

I agree with most of this, Celtic take little managing, but he did make them better than Rangers who had won the league something like 9 times in a row, he was over achieving at Villa before falling out over transfer monies.

He could have walked back in here after Sven got sacked, with a fair amount of funds, but he completely ignored us, if i remember rightly, he even had an interview with Stringer, but said he wouldn't talk about the vacant job, but it all worked to our benefit tbh <ok>

You are quite correct ... my first thoughts were it's like a less extreme example of trying to compare Brendan Rodgers and Bob Paisley at Liverpool ... unarguably now more exciting for Liverrpool fans than it's been for many years ... but you are being asked to compare exciting potential with glorious history ...

In Pearsons defence, this is one of the best squads (especially starting 11) we have had since the O'Neil glory years.

Theres no tellingif DD and James can achieve the same kind of success as Muzzy, Savage or Lennon, but the potentials there!

Erm no FF, no other manager in our history has won eight consecutive league matches, under Judas Little we only managed 7 !
I do whole heartedly agree Little's style of football was pooh.
I also agree, that NP has not achieved the success at City as MON....... YET !
Pearson also got us out of league 1 at the 1st attempt....not an easy thing to do !
I just have a little hunch NP will bring us stability in the top tier and possibly a domestic trophy to boot, if we manage to keep him,on all fronts !

... I didn't say anybody had Mick ... I said that the previous record was held by Brian Little (which was 7) ... otherwise it would not be a new record to win 8 now ... merely an equalling of the existing record ...

MON by a mile at present
play off final against palace with a sub which surprised us all bringing on spider-man to replace Kevin Poole in goal in the final minutes of extra time in a play off final as we are looking like going to penalties. just inspired.
we were though very one dimensional under MON long ball to Heskey, Bruno falls over, Parkers free kick swung into the box, big center back sticks in the net.
to a chorus of Martin, Martin O Neal, Martin, Martin O Neal........................ or Martin, Martin give us a wave......................

Anyone who can get Heskey into the England squad deserves all the adulation he can get <laugh>

PS, heskeys doing well out here at the mo....Maybe Harry might bring him back along with Del Piero who are lighting up the A-League...

    Yep thats the standard!! <ok>

Mmm Jambawamba, In MON's defence, the reason why he wouldn't commit was more to do with the board not committing to him!!

There was all the delays over the new stadium, no investment in the team to take us forward. City where always a make do and mend team, most managers, at that time, were told "You're successful with what you've got, why do want to spend more money??"

Imagine what would have happened if we'd have had the likes of Top and his family's investment during the MON years, where would we have been now??

I do agree with other posts though, it's far to early to compare NP and MON at Leicester. Let's see if we reach the promised land and if we can maintain a presence in the Prem. Remember we were top of the Premiership for 2 weeks under MON(Ok so it was an Internationl Break, but who cares) and, as has already been said, we won 2 trophies under MON and 3 Cup Finals, although we've never yet won the FA Cup.

God O´neil is an LCFC legend, NP (if we get promoted) will be classed as a very good LC manager, the best since MO´N. We need to see how it pans out in the prem 1st with NP before we can fall at his knees.

NP has done very well for us no doubt: Winning lge 1, making the P.O´s (last season) & so far, top of the Champ´ship this. You can´t compare him to MO´N though, that´ll take some doing even if NP stay at the club for the next 5 years.
