Man City were paying most of his wages and the rest was paid directly by directors of CCFC.

    Where did you read that?

The only place I saw the figure of 20 million being thrown around was the same article that said we had just confirmed Alan Shearer as our manager. As you may be aware, complete and utter nonsense.

Cardiff City Football Club are one of the poorer teams in the division. We had a manager who could deal with that and still move the club year on year.

Just because our manager did a good job does not mean we are cash rich, it means he was very shrewd, there is a difference.

Nope. Chopra was owned by the club and the club paid his wages.

The fact that we have now had to sell/release all of our top earners should tell you more than I ever could...

Can I quote you on that? You obviously understand more about business than the people running our club, perhaps you would like to come on board as an advisor of some sort?

I would take Malky Mackay anyday over Hughton and Di Matteo, based on watching the football played by Watford last season. They ripped us apart at home and nearly pulled back from a 3 goal deficit (as well as Buckley slamming it against the post) at the CCS. They also did the same to QPR and several other teams, and credit has to go to Mackay for making them play in such a fashion. Considering that Hughton and Di Matteo are going to cost more in wages than the compensation and wages for Mackay he seems a much more financially suitable choice as well. Of course you could argue that he's unproven and the only thing he's done notably is keep Watford (with very little money) in the Championship but just cos we're getting a big name doesn't necessarily mean promotion. Every manager is a risk to a degree.

    Just my opinion <ok>

I got the 20million figure from posts you have put and articles written by cardiff supporters, so i assumed it had a degree of acuracy. sorry for thinking supporters actually know whats happening at their club. Also where the money comes from makes no difference!! Jones still spent more than Mackay in the season and therefore Mackay defied the odds on a smaller budget!! You were tipped for promotion all season and failed to get it. We on the other hand were tipped for relegation and survived and even managed to beat big teams and flirt with the play offs! now tell me who had the better season?? the manager who failed his goals (jones) or the manager who excelled and proved everyone wrong (MALKY MACKAY!!!)

The one who achieved the highest league position on what was, no matter what you claim, a very similair or in fact smaller budget.

Guess that would be Dave Jones then.

And the only time a Cardiff fan has mentioned 20 million was in discussion about haw badly wrong they were about Shearer, so is the 20 million figure true. Most would agree that it is not.

You really do seem to have one hell of a hornet in your bonnet on this one. To describe Cardiff as being 'poor' in relation to Watfor seems to be disingenuous to me. The club may have faced some bleak times recently but there's an awful lot more ambition about Cardiff at the moment. You may as well describe Man U as being poor. It's too simplistic.
Don't get me wrong, I'm pro Houghton but he's not exactly a managerial legend himself, is he? Or did I miss something. Ditto RDM. And we have no idea what they're asking in terms of money. Maybe they didn't impress at interview? Who knows. But to describe a man who is, it seems, highly regarded by his team's own fans (and others) as a mid table manager seems short sighted. Rogers? What was his track record before taking Swansea up? Ditto Paul Lambert?
And whilst Cardiff may be on the up in terms of ambition and Watford (perhaps) not, describing ourselves in the terms you use sets us up for a fall.
I, for one, will back him if he comes. If he does, I hope he does well and that you;ll be eating some humble pie in a year from now.

Regardless, there are rumours of Dave JOnes being reappointed!!!! How's that for stirring up the hornets.

BHD - shut up - are you trying to sell Malky to Cardiff?

He is rubbish isn't he? - We don't like him do we? We want to go back to our horrible Hoofball don't we?

I would back him fully if he comes here, but it doesn't mean I would approve of his appointment.

I just think that we should be aiming a lot higher than Malky Mackay.

Does the original poster know anything about football?

Malky is a very respectable manager who took a team that was destined for relegation at the start of the season into a sniff of playoffs with no budget at all.

Danny Graham has also just been sold for 3m, who would have thought that at the start of the season?

Besides, i'd be surprised if anyone respectable is willing to take the Cardiff job at the moment.

    A sinking ship.

Blimey Luke, that's quite a tirade!

MacKay mid table - ok (on a £10m budget - see below)
Bigger budget than Cardiff - NO. Watford's playing budget was £10m this last season and £2m of that was on Ellington and Sadler who haven't been at the club for 18 months or so. Only Scunthorpe had a smaller budget than Watford last season.

MacKay's salary was increased to £130,000pa in the Spring. I hear Dave Jones' basic was £900,000pa. On this basis Watford's ranking was 23rd last season, and yet they finished 14th - 9 places above ranking. If Dave Jones had achieved anywhere near this Cardiff would have walked the division. If you said that he couldn't handle "BIG CITY club Cardiff" then you might have a point, because financially right now it is suggested Cardiff are twice as big as Watford.

Dave Jones was sacked for under-achieving, Malky MacKay has been praised (even on TV) for over achieving.

Maybe you should consider changing your signature?????

Look, it's quite simple. How much did Jones have for transfers and to pay wages (and it doesn't matter a jot if it was the club or the investors, it was available to Jones to spend, end of)

In terms of transfers he had 10 times what Malky had (and we had to sell our best players) In terms of wages Chopra and Bellamy (your share) would cover the whole squad.

But they have aimed high. They've sniffed out MON but, rumour has it, he wated 1.5 million. Now that would be stupid. We can't just buy our way out. We need discipline and team spirit, things that money will not in itself get you. A decent budget to a promising man (one a bonus if they go up) and we could be looking at an exciting season. But we need to get our man, whoever he is. Now.

I presume that you would 'approve' if they went up. . .

Beggars cant be choosers as a lot of the top managers wont touch cardiff with a barge pole but one thing for sure that cardiff needs a manager quick as he will have a massive job in trying to keep cardiff in the championship this coming season, anything else will be a bonus:emoticon-0117-talki<ok>

luke you are one of these people who has an opinion and will hold it til death.

It has been common knowledge that we had the 2nd smallest budget in the champo- notts forest raved about malky's budgeting skills and so did the pundits (inc. steve claridge- who very notably tipped us for relegation and nothing else last season!)

"I hear Dave Jones' basic was £900,000pa."

    You hear wrong <doh>

Watford were a well set up, well organised side at CCS and played decent football, no real stars, but some tidy players who worked hard for one another.......Cardiff had an off day at Vicarage Rd and fair play you gave us a tuning, it doesn't really matter how much you spend (unless you have megabucks) its HOW WELL you spend your budget. MM hasn't really achieved anything, but he's an ambitious young manager with potential..........which is what Cardiff are trying to buy into, established successful managers come expensive......and can command big transfer budgets, Martin O'Neill would have joined Cardiff, but a reputed £2 million a year salary and a transfer kitty of £40million was more than the Malaysians were prepared to part with. MM did OK with Watford on a shoestring, it will be interersting to see what he can do at Cardiff with a reasonable (by championship standards) budget..........IF he turns up <ok>

LEO!!- I will not shut up as you put it. Do you honestly think the powers that be actually even know these sites exist let alone pay attention to them. I am simply putting someone right when they say that MM worked wonders on a bigger budget than Dave Jones.

All in all Malky spent less money than Jones and was given less to spend over the season (regardless who gave it to him). Therefore Malky had had the smallest budget!

Luke- if the 20mill is rubbish then fair enough, i was going on information from CFC fans and have no other sources to go by and assumed that you lot know what you are on about.

I have to agree with Elixir69.

I have no problem with Malky being manager. i think he would do a great job. Better than Hughton...I don't think so. So to me we have a choice of Hughton and Malky...both who I think would be great appointments. One of them comes for free the other for half a million. I guess their wages would be the same. This is where I agree with Luke...why pay the half a million....but at this point I do trust the owners. They have been excellent so far.

They have stated in the Malaysian press their long term commitment to Cardiff and whilst the 20 mill war chest seems ridiculous, 10 mill is a real possibility for a new manager!
