Don't be surprised to see Monk/Tate as back up and Caulker to start with Ash once he is settled in!

Caulker was on loan at Bristol City last season and voted their player of the season, he's only 19 but has great potential and Spurs want him to gain experience at Prem level which suits both them and us.

Agree with swimaway that he may well figure significantly at the heart of our defence with Monk and Tate playing a lesser role provided Ash stays.

Good news but I would still like a top Premier League , experienced CB also . We really need a hold down the fort , solid CB . Our present CB's are use to midfield support , support that may go missing more times than not in the environment we will play this season .

And being 6' 3" really does help us with height.

I agree SA14. We need to deal with set piece crosses better. Seems a great loan deal.

It's still not announced on the swans site, so it's still a rumour at the moment, they normally update the site about 6am I noticed, obviously it's done like automatically for us to have good news every morning, sort of sets the day ;)

First thread i could find on CB's,I've just read that Reading have turned down a second bid for Matt Mills of around 3 million from Wolves but Reading are wanting 4million for him.Now a couple of weeks back many of us Jacks fancied having him to partner Ashley Williams then it seemed to all die down,My personal point of view is that we should attempt to get this guy but do the rest of you think that 4 million is to much.

Hmm... it depends I guess. If we're saying Ash is worth 5mil, then Mills is probably going to command a fee of at least 4mil. As long as he is good in the air, is strong and can tackle, then it's probably a good deal. The team style can be learnt fairly quickly, especially considering he'll do most of his passing sideways at first!

Im all for Caulker! seeing as our back line is not looking like they are all staying. He would be quality in the first team but also as a backup as we dont have much back up in the squad any more!...... i also think matt mils would be brilliant but 4m is asking a bit much maybe gabbidon might be something to look at even as back up..... he is free at the moment isnt he??? but yeah we do need to spend money on something brilliant in defence! and a few backups really!

To say he will partner Ash, maybe not, he also I believe plays RB.
I would pay the money for Mills at CB.
All that's missing is a GK ,CM and a LB.

Think if we spend £10m before the season begins, our 1st opponents will spend that on Tevez wages for a year.

I see no report from any reputable outlet to confirm this loan.

we will never spend that much ...... i think 7/8m maximum as we dont have much of the money yet and also isn't caulker a LB? that we're having for a season long loan (hopefully)

We're not the only club in for him but I think he'll come here for the season.

Matt Mills is someone I thought would make a very good fit with Ash at the back, Rangel one side and maybe Ryan Bertrand or Patrick van Aanholt on the left. We need this defence built early imo so that we can start moulding them into a solid unit during pre-season and hit the ground running come our first games of the year.
