Deal off then! Not worth losing Aspas for some has been like Messi.

De Jong is older- so won't improve, and is decent but not great. Doesn't seem very ambitious... but better than nothing. Gomes is a risk but maybe could turn out good in the long run... I'm a little worried about his passing from the videos I saw... looks like he will be giving the ball away alot in his career.

If Inler is good enough- it may be worth it. What do people think about Inler? I'd rather someone younger with potential to become a true great (since we don't have the money to sign people already at top of their game); however, if the right players are available to us that are older, then we certainly shouldn't exclude them based on age... if they are best we can get.

    Aspas... Tacos.

I said earlier Mata is a good player but he doesn't fill the gap in the centre of their defence and he in no way adresses the problem with their ageing creaking leaky defence. Yes he's a quality player but he's not the answer on his own to their troubles. Neither would he be for us - even if we were prepared to spend at that level.

Frank, I'm not arguing with you, I'm only trying to put on alternative view on what appears to be going on.

I could quite understand JH questionning BR along the lines of "What the **** am I paying you for? I've invested in this squad. You're presently in 4th and have a squad of players. Now manage the ****ing thing!!" He would have every right to do so. However, my impression of JH is that he would dig deep but only if the purchase was exceptional. That type of player (who meets our needs) just does not appear to be on the radar. Therefore we are left scrapping for good but not exceptional buys.

Somehow people appear to forget that we have got where we are with what we've got and that there is no reason (given the moves so far) that we cannot continue in the same vain. OK so we have injuries which may have been eased by imports but its' Rodgers job to manage the ruddy situation!

This idea that all is lost if we don't buy is really childish. We may lose out:we may not - that's football.

    <applause>

There is no reason for us to panic right now - we are in a good position lets not forget!

I think us not signing anyone has given us an illusion that we have been ****ing **** all season! We are 4th and have a perfect opportunity to win the derby tonight and get a little cushion (assuming Spurs drop points too).

Plus - the window isn't closed yet!!

It's a far cry from where we are though, isn't it? It really shows Utds intent to stay in the top 4 and you'd be wise not to discount it. You suggested that only Chelsea are signing anyone. Not accurate, not by a country mile.

I am sure it has already been talked about but Salah's agent came out about what happened with our negotiations and said they were fair but when a deal takes over TWO MONTHS and they cannot complete it, it is too long.

Surely that has to fall on Ayre? Two months....... if true that is a big **** up!

This is very true! A win tonight, Spurs dropping points and a signing a day on Wednesday, Thursday & Friday would be awesome <ok>

KKK, United have not addressed their problems. You know it, I know it and the rest of the world knows it! So what if United show intent, there's a hell of gap between intent and results.

So who else have dramatically improved their squad to the point that they have become critical for us?

It could be akin to Ozil going to Arsenal. Maybe didn't address their needs but it was a world class type of signing that has clearly helped galvanize the team, add to the morale, and at the end of the day it is a quality player. Still can get at that United back four and mid though agree with that completely!

13.00 GMT: The Mirror reports that David Moyes is considering a 7 million-pound move for Porto midfielder Fernando. The 26-year-old is apparently known as "The Octopus" for his distinctive style

10.32 GMT: Valencia are still looking for buyers for Sergio Canales according to AS, as the midfielder is their most saleable asset and they cannot seemingly rely on him due to his injury history. Canales is also reportedly happy to leave as he is not featuring much under new coach Juan Antonio Pizzi - who has put Ever Banega back into team in the No. 10 role.

09.18 GMT: Goal reports that Manchester City will attempt to sign PSG midfielder Blaise Matuidi on the cheap. The 26-year-old France international is out of contract in the summer and the French giants are set to sign Yohan Cabaye, so Manuel Pellegrini will apparently try to land Matuidi this month for a cut-price offer.

Oh I know you're not Dave.

And you know I agree with the principal of being sensible in a market that is frankly ludicrous at the best of times. We can't do a city and could die if we tried it.

Just as long as the committee and strict budget approach isn't a blanket for them all, BR included to hide behind. 3 years of buying 2 or 3 Aspas a year, while in budget each year has the same result on pitch and in actually money wasted as an Andy Carroll. But worse in many ways, it screws up 3 years and more than likely everyone responsible gets to keep their jobs....well except probably the manager, which is why he's ever so slightly letting his feelings about it seem clear. If BR stays quiet, what's to stop the owners from using that silence as proof that it's a footballing decision not just a budgeting one? Cynical maybe.

Our current team is doing great, better than it should be really but that's half a season, and we are now at the stage where bringing in a continuous stream of like for like players isn't going to achieve the stated goal of success. We won't without luck develop further and maintain that development.

At what point and how exactly does Henry trust the footballing brains in his committee over the number crunchers about the targeted player?

Maybe JH needs reminding he's not playing FIFA 2014 either and that risks based on the experts of football he hired need to be taken every now and then. How does Henry know who that exceptional player is the one to risk it on if the culture is to go safe and low target wise? Surely a steady stream of unimpressive 3rd choice mediocrity just reinforces his distrust of the decision making on the part of the footballing brains despite it being his inflexible rule that realises the stream of mediocrity?

The reasoning is sound but the feeling is that a nice safe risk adverse culture is being developed in this committe of no responsibility.

There's got to be a balance.
