I know this has been done before... but today's been mad with Danny Guthrie hate!!

Why does everybody hate Guthrie so much?

His first 2 seasons he was immense and because he was injured at the beginning of this season and didn't get a look in he's now awful? Even this season when he did get games he didn't play badly apart from out of position and when he wasn't match fit.

Personally I feel he can be a good back up for any of our midfielders and has potential to become a first team player for us again.

Overrating players isn't gonna make them better. He was average in his first season and only started playing around January/February in the CCC, where he was immense.

Just an average player all round really. If we hadn't sold Nolan I wouldn't have minded it if he had been sold

His last few games for us this season just gone were pretty good I reckon. He played well, with better CM play than Nolan.

His ball to Collo for the goal against Spurs was world class, to pull that off

He was one of the few bright sparks the year we went down(along with Enrique and Bassong).

He played 38 out of 46 Championship games... he was a regular all season pretty much and was class all season.

He can pick a pass, can shoot, is strong in the tackle, has good stamina, isn't slow and is generally a good midfielder. He isn't world class by any means but could cover Tiote, Cabaye, Barton and possibly even Ben Arfa in the hole. And if he played well there he could keep whoever he replaces out the team and I believe he has the ability to do that.

This. Technically MUCH better than Nolan. I think Guthrie is GOOD back-up but I'm not convinced if he's good enough to be a first team regular. But I think he's on relativly low wages(heard somwhere it was 5k per wk with bonuses), young, English & a very good passer. I'll keep until atleast the next summer! <ok>

I agree with this, and so many people today have said he isn't good enough. When match fit he wouldn't look out of place in a top half side.

he's decent but he shouldn't be wearing 8... maybe let Cabaye wear it.

    I'd say he's a back-up DM/CM, nothing more.

If he plays well, I'd put him into the squad for regular rotation. If a player is looking tired at some point during the second half, put Guthrie on for a fresh pair of legs.

We need to start using our squad as a squad, and not just back-up for our rigid starting 11.

I'd have Gosling for this, Guthrie as back-up sub if you know what I mean.

always rated Guthrie I think the only reason he didnt start at the begining of the season was because barton had more experience even though he hadnt been as crucial in the championship

I like him, think he just needs a run of games... whether he'll get that is another thing. He has to play CM though.

Decent back up, however maybe due to his lack of games I just dont fully trust him yet, although it seems hes been around for ages he is a good prospect if he trains hard!

I don't think he is that bad tbh!! He's not one of the players I think "for **** sake" if I see his name in the starting line-up

I think he's a good player but he's looked low on confidence lately......maybe he's been reading these boards.
