Do you know why we have only sold one player we didn't want to lose? Because there's only like 5 we wouldn't want to lose, and the rest are churny players that make up a first 11 because Ashley hasn't actually reinvested all that money he's got from staying in the league and selling players back into the squad... We have a puny, ever diminishing squad, and to lose one of the actual quality players at this stage and not bring in a replacement til next summer (and that's assuming we did) is an embarrassment. To be honest. It's called f***ing downsizing

I don't consider it a write off at all. What i am saying is that we can't judge the impact of this sale until then. I'd have much preferred to keep him, but i do think we need to ask what the impact would have been of refusing the sale (both financially in the summer where there was talk of a buy out possibility and the impact that would have on buying replacements) and the impact of him being unhappy again. I disagree about only having 5 players others would want, and I'm not convinced there wont be arrivals in this window. I'll be disappointed if there aren't, but like I said earlier. I'd prefer the right signings in summer than the wrong ones now if the right ones aren't available now.

 

And will you be so content when watching a team comprised of the **** getting a few extra pastings for the rest of season because we can't sign anybody (our DoF has signed one player on loan since he started, so what has he been doing, if not seeking the right players for this very eventuality?! Maybe the right player doesn't exist at all... it's all an illusion...)?

There's no "wait and see" clause attached to my statements, they aptly reflect our current situation. Pardew's lost Simpson, Perch, Jonas. Players who could at least cover injuries. Now we don't have cover for positions, and we're selling our better players. It's just lunacy.

I'm never content watching us getting a pasting, I'm just not convinced things are the way you say. Plan A should surely have been to keep him and if we kept him we didnt need his replacement. We May well see things fall into place now that they know what is happening with Cabaye. We may not, but I'm willing to wait and see because things have improved from where we were and I do think there is a trend of improvement at the club. I'd love it to be faster but the days of us getting massive names on stupid money are gone and wont be back.

You mean Pre-Ashley? How so? Because I'm pretty sure you, me, everybody who watches us sees absolutely zip benefit from the club being carbon neutral or having no debts (which btw, is a farce considering the owner is a billionaire). Our time under FS had higher highs and less cumbersome lows. We haven't improved at all, we're still an inconsistent, under-achiever.

Now we sign nobody instead of the right or the wrong players. That's not progress, that's just a lack of ambition or intent.

MA saw a cash cow and jumped in, he was always a Spurs man and had no interest in us as a winning Club, he just saw a quick return for his cash.

 

He would have gone for 6 million in the summer if he bought out his contract. He's 28 years old now. Hes a great player but if we get in someone like grenier who is younger with potential to be better i wouldn't mind it. We need someone in this window though or else i'll be pretty bummed out.
