Crikey. Fining him that much is fine anyway - it's six weeks wages and he shouldn't be getting paid for that, anyway.

Isn't the maximum fine allowed two weeks wages?

As the article says... misconduct of this extent, as listed in his contract, permits up to six weeks wages to be docked.

The fact that we've given him an ultimatum almost makes it sound like he doesn't want to leave.

Not necessarily. It simply hinders his ability to dictate where he goes and thus, the fee Saints get. Saints could now just accept the highest bid and Osvaldo has to take it or lose 6 weeks of pay. Otherwise Osvaldo could hold the team hostage by refusing to go and angling for the team he wants, as opposed to the team that pays us the most.

Monaco are said to be interested in Osvaldo (Express).

That photo of his celebrating made me sad, really thought he was gonna go onto do great things for us, looking very unlikely now!

Mirror just guessing here...I'm sure this stuff would be kept private. Don't really see that 6 weeks wages is much of a threat...look at the money he will earn if he just sits out his contract until the summer. There is more to this than just the head butt...it must have been the final straw. I think he may have been unpopular generally...perhaps Fonte did go in a bit hard deliberately. Imagine if Rickie had head butted Jose...I bet Saints could have worked past that.

I think some of you need to reread that article. Nowhere at all does is say anything factually provable other than "in extreme cases, clubs can impose a six-week fine." The rest looks very thin.

I'm not saying it's tripe but it certainly looks specious.

Even the headline contains "could" and "if". Not really hard news.

I wouldn't be surprised if I saw a photo of Osvaldo and Fonte shaking hands on the O/S in the not so distant future.
