Should Sagna not sign a new contract: http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1694526/arsene-wenger-weigh-bacary-sagna-alternativesr?cc=4716 I'm happy to hear that because it means that Wenger isn't look to throw in Jenkinson as the main RB should Sagna goes...For the time being, I think Jenkinson should remain as our number 2 RB, he's not ready or at the level we really need for someone to be a RB, put it this way, going from Sagna to Jenkinson as your RB is a major downgrade, and there are better more experianced options out there to replace Sagna, should he decide to go. I do hope Sagna stays though, wouldn't make any sense to leave Arsenal now, when we're on the up, the team is like a family now, there's a strong bond, and at this stage in his career, you really couldn't have it much more better.
I thought Jenkinson looked very good against Coventry, but I accept that they are not PL opposition. We are going to need another RB if Sagna leaves, but I don't find it hard to believe that Jenkinson, with a run in the first team, couldn't make the necessary standard. He is already superior (IMO) to that disaster area Walker, that the Spuds are so keen on.
We need to make it a priority to try and get Sagna to re-sign. Given that he's had some bad injures and come back just as strong leads me to believe that he's still got two or three years at the top still. His experience is vital to our squad. I like Jenks, but he's not ready to assume the RB role week in week out. What he does well is get forward and put in a fantastic cross and he's good faced with a one to one situation as he has pace, but his ball control is not anywhere as good as Sagna and he does not read the game as well either.
I think it would be a mistake if we didn't re-sign Sagna. He is experienced and still one of the best right backs in the league. He isn't too injury prone, has an excellent attitude and plays at a constantly high level. Why waste our time looking for another player when we don't have to. Just give him a new 3 year contract.
If we weren't to re-sign Sagna (which would be an idiotic move), then the options that interest me are Nathaniel Clyne (as mentioned above), Mathieu Debuchy and Lukasz Pizcek
Don't think Clyne would be suitable. He's still a young (22) player and with Jenkinson improving quickly that's not really what we need. Debuchy and Piszczek would be better, as they're in their prime and both playing well, however they would be quite expensive. One of Ivanovic or Azilicueta would also be a good signing, but I doubt Mourinho would sell to us atm. Saying all this, I think Sagna is going to wait till the end of the season or close to it. If we finish top, I can't see why he'd want to leave (unless he wants to go back to France) and even if we finish 2nd and win a cup I think he'll want to stay and help the club win the league.
It's a tough one. What's going on with Bellerin? He was tipped for the top recently. If Sagna leaves, it may be that Wenger promotes Bellerin and he fights it out with Jenks for the first choice spot. They'll only get better by playing. I would much prefer to have Sagna for another season or two, and three seems a reasonable amount as Wenger could sell him on for minimal amounts towards the end to a French team, so the length of contract doesn't really make much difference at this stage.
Hmm Its quite likley Sagna will end up at PSG or Monaco IMO. Wenger wont give him a three year contract as a fullback.(the position which requires the MOST running in the modern game) I hope they reach some kind of agreement as I'm a huge Sagna fan. If he goes I would go for Coleman.
Exactly. How old is Cole and Evra? If they can/could play on to a high level, then Sagna can too. It's all about adjusting your game, and he is still quality.
Hopefully Sagna stays, but if he doesn't then I think we need to buy a RB that would compete with Jenkinson rather than keep him away from the starting XI. Similar to what we have with Gibbs and Monreal.
He prefers 1 year deals for players over 30. 2 year deals are a rarity, 3 year deals just plain unlikley.
