It doesn't necessarily mean we're not 'prepared' to sign one; depending on how he does it might mean there's less need to sign one.

Marcello Trotta has technically returned to us but Brentford would like to extend his loan and some Serie B teams are said to be interested after he scored for Italy B.

"The 21-year-old has scored seven goals in 20 games for the Bees, but his initial deal expired over the weekend.

A number of clubs have expressed an interest in signing Trotta, with sides from Italy's Serie B joining the battle for his signature.

However, the young frontman is poised to remain at Griffin Park to help the League One side's promotion push."

Given that Marcello wouldn't be eligible for the Norwich replay (he's already played for Brentford in the Cup) and Moussa Dembele is now getting U21 games, arranging a new loan would be the best for everyone.

Back to Brentford would be the best option I think, he's been in great form for them recently, they're top of the league and I think Trotta still feels that he owes them something after that disastrous penalty miss last season. Getting them promoted could do wonders for him.

Mesca has also returned 'home', although Crewe Alex are having a think..

"Following the expiry of his loan agreement with the Football Club on 7th January, Buomesca Tué Na Bangna has returned to train with Fulham for the time being.

Fondly known as ‘Mesca’ the Fulham winger has helped Crewe enjoy a recent revival of results and most notably scored the winning goal in the club’s 2-1 win over Carlisle United on New Years’ Day.

The skilful wide man, 20, has gained invaluable experience whilst on loan and Steve Davis has not totally ruled out bringing the promising youngster back to Gresty Road. The Alex boss will assess his own options before making a decision on whether to explore another loan agreement with the young Portuguese and his parent club."

Another player who would be best staying on loan, I think.

Maybe, or maybe as he's back it could be worth putting him in for the cup replay to see what he can do against higher level opposition (albeit one with a lot of youngsters and reserves playing, like ourselves).

Jack Grimmer has gone on loan to port Vale.

[I"Fulham defender Jack Grimmer has joined Sky Bet League One outfit Port Vale on loan until Saturday 8th February.

A natural leader, Grimmer has captained Fulham Under-21s on numerous occasions and his consistent form saw him named on the First Team bench for our FA Cup with Budweiser clash at Blackpool last season.

Vale – who are managed by former Fulham boss Micky Adams – currently occupy eighth spot in League One, just two points off the Play-Off places, and Grimmer will go straight into the squad for their clash against leaders Brentford on Saturday where he could come up against fellow Whites loanee Marcello Trotta.

Adams told Port Vale’s website that he was pleased to bring the Scotsman to the club: “He's a player we've watched on numerous occasions and he's well thought of down there, in and around their First Team squad. We're delighted to have him on board."

“We have got no doubts about his ability, I think that he can only get better and we're helping him to develop his career and we hope he does well.”[/I]

A tad surprised, although there were rumours about him going out on loan around November time. However, if (and it's a big if) Dan Burn stays, I'd have thought it would have been worth while partnering the pair to gain the experience of playing together. As I've said before Grimmer and Burn will be our CBs next season.

Also Jack is a natural leader and the U21 side will miss him. But then who would turn down the chance of playing for Micky Adams??

Marcello has gone back to Brentford.

Marcello Trotta’s loan spell at Brentford has been extended until the end of the season.

Having impressed on loan for the club last season, the striker joined the table-topping Bees for a second temporary stint in September.

Sean Kavanagh is attracting interest from Portsmouth, according to Talksport.

The Republic of Ireland Under-19 left-back is currently injured and it is claimed that Pompey will look to sign him on loan when he returns to fitness.

Sean was brought over from Irish club Belvedere and signed his first professional contract for Fulham in 2011. As well as being a solid defender, he is attracting attention thanks to his ability to combine that with his desire to get forward and deliver crosses.

It's that time of the season when it's difficult to keep track of who's where. Anyway, here is an update by the Club on how the lad's currently out on loan got on at the weekend:

"Marcello Trotta took bragging rights over Fulham teammate Jack Grimmer as Brentford defeated Port Vale 2-0 in Sky Bet League One on Saturday. The two Whites youngsters started for their respective loan clubs, with Grimmer making his Football League debut. But it was Trotta who put the Bees in front with a brilliant turn and strike from 25 yards on the half-hour mark.

Trotta forced a fine save from Chris Neal in the second half, before Will Grigg wrapped up the points late on and sealed an eighth successive win for the table-topping Bees. Vale sit in ninth position.

In the same division, Stephen Arthurworrey and Tranmere Rovers drew 1-1 at home to Walsall. Walsall took the lead in the 19th minute when Chelsea loanee Milan Lalkovic curled home a fine strike. But the home side got an equaliser 12 minutes from time when substitute Cole Stockton drove an effort into the bottom corner. The result leaves Tranmere in 20th position, a point and a place above the drop zone.

In Sky Bet League Two, Cauley Woodrow was a 57th-minute substitute and claimed an assist as Southend United stretched their unbeaten run to six games with a 1-1 draw at Plymouth Argyle. Dominic Blizzard’s deflected effort put Plymouth in front in the 65th minute but the Shrimpers were level soon after when Kevan Hurst raced onto Woodrow’s pass to score. Southend are now fifth in the table.

Oxford United and Ryan Williams dropped down to seventh after an uneventful 0-0 draw at home to Portsmouth. Williams did go close late on with a volley.

Marcus Bettinelli was back in goal for Accrington Stanley after rejoining the Lancashire outfit on loan as they drew 3-3 at home to Newport County. The visitors went ahead when Robbie Willmott's free-kick went through the wall and past Bettinelli, but Peter Murphy levelled, before crossing for Kai Naismith to put Stanley in front. Ryan Burge smashed a shot past Bettinelli to make it 2-2, but Murphy nodded in two minutes from time to put the hosts back in the lead. Newport snatched a point in stoppage time when Lee Minshull buried Willmott's cross and leave Stanley in 22nd place.

Finally, Max Oberschmidt made his debut for Slough Town as they drew 2-2 with Marlow in the Calor League Division One Central."

Chris David who made his full Fulham against Norwich in the Cup 2 weeks ago, is being linked with a loan move back to his homeland. Dutch newspapers reports are saying that Fulham are open to the idea of David returning to Holland to gain more match time and that NEC are among the clubs interested in securing his loan signature.

I notice Jack Grimmer made his home debut for Port Vale yesterday scoring the winning goal in a one nil win against Oldham. Grimmer played right back apparently.
Just been on the Vale forum and Grimmer has been voted man of the match in there fans poll.
Looking at the match thread there are quite a few comments on Grimmer and how well he did, one that stands out was.... A class above what we already have a big future ahead of him.......

Think he could be one of the youngsters pushing for our first team next year no matter what division we are in

His positional sense and reading of the game combined with Dan Burn's more 'gung ho' style is why I reckon the pair of them will be our CBs for the future.

Here's the full round-up from the Club, including jack's dream start:

"Jack Grimmer marked his home debut for Port Vale with the winning goal and a man of the match performance in a 1-0 win over Oldham Athletic.

The defender was on hand to head in Chris Shuker’s outswinging corner in the 53rd minute to give Vale the lead, with Jennison Myrie-Williams coming close to a second shortly after only to see his penalty brilliantly kept out by Oldham keeper Mark Oxley. The result keeps the Valiants in Play-Off contention, and boss Micky Adams was delighted with Grimmer’s contribution, telling port-vale.co.uk: “I was pleased with his performance, full stop. He got his goal as well and I thought he showed a lot of football intelligence there. Chris Shuker put a corner in a minute before then and it was cleared at the near post and he stole into that area where the first corner had gone and got on the end of it, so real football intelligence, but I thought his overall performance was excellent.”

Grimmer, too, was understandably pleased to have had such a telling involvement in the Sky Bet League One encounter: “It is a special one for me, especially with it being my first home match. I think it was just payback for the manager and chairman and everyone who worked hard to bring me here,” he said.

Elsewhere in the division, Marcello Trotta played 88 minutes as Brentford drew 1-1 at Walsall. The Bees took the lead when Clayton Donaldson powerfully headed in Jake Bidwell’s tempting cross, although the home side equalised on the stroke of half-time through Craig Westcarr. Trotta had a decent chance to restore his side’s lead in the second half but was unable to control his half-volley which sailed over the bar from close range. The result maintained Brentford’s unbeaten run but Leyton Orient’s win at Crewe Alexandra meant they slipped to second in the table.

Stephen Arthurworrey played the entirety of Tranmere Rovers’ 3-0 defeat away at Peterborough United. Britt Assombalonga put Posh ahead from the penalty spot after just five minutes, although Rovers remained in the contest until the 75th minute when Nicky Ajose made it two. Assombalonga then grabbed his second to kill the contest and ensure that Tranmere remained in the relegation zone.

In League Two, Ryan Williams helped Oxford United to a hard fought 1-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers. It looked as though the U’s might be left frustrated at Adams Park, with James Constable and Williams both firing over as they searched for an elusive opener. The crucial goal eventually arrived in the 87th minute when Nicky Wroe struck from outside of the area, with Williams then substituted in stoppage time.

There was also a win for Cauley Woodrow and Southend United as they comfortably saw off Chesterfield at Roots Hall. Goals from Kevan Hurst, Ryan Leonard and Barry Corr had the game sewn up by the time Woodrow entered the action as a 74th minute substitute, as the Shrimpers leapfrogged Chesterfield to go fourth in the table.

Marcus Bettinelli was in good form as Accrington Stanley claimed a vital three points with a 2-1 win at Cheltenham Town to move as high as 18th in the table.

George Bowerman put Stanley ahead with quarter of an hour played, with Bettinelli then making a fine save from Jermaine McGlashan to preserve his side’s lead. That stop proved vital as Luke Joyce headed in a second shortly before half-time as the visitors took control of the game. The second half saw Bettinelli called into action on several occasions and although he was beaten by Jamie Cureton 72 minutes in, it proved to be just a consolation as James Beattie’s side secured a first win in five attempts.

Over in the Netherlands, Bryan Ruiz tasted defeat on his PSV Eindhoven debut as Ajax ran out 1-0 winners at the Amsterdam Arena. The visitors actually enjoyed the better of the first half but league leaders Ajax took the lead when Kolbeinn Sigthorsson headed in with 64 minutes on the clock. Ruiz played 75 minutes before being replaced by Luciano Narsingh as PSV slipped to eighth in the Eredivisie.

[Edit Note: Danny Hoesen came on for Ajax]

Finally, Max Oberschmidt was in goal as Slough Town came from behind to smash Chalfont St Peter 5-1 in the Calor League Division One Central. Oberschmidt had already made one good save by the time he was beaten by Terrell Lewis in the 20th minute, but goals from Adam Cornell, Johnnie Dyer (2), Warren Harris and Edward Smith earned Slough an emphatic home win."

Marcello Trotta scored from the penalty spot for Brentford tonight. Shows a lot of confidence in him by the club and in him himself, given what happened at the end of last season.

His goal put Brentford 2-0 up and although Gillingham pulled one back, the Bees held on for a 2-1 win which puts them hem at the top of League 1.

And here's how the rest got on over the weekend:

"Cauley Woodrow was a 70th-minute substitute as Southend United saw their cup dreams end with a 2-0 defeat at home to Hull City. Matty Fryatt scored Hull’s goals in the 63rd and 90th minutes.

In League One, Stephen Arthurworrey played the full 90 as Tranmere Rovers earned a first victory in six games with a 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Crewe Alexandra. On-loan Everton defender Matthew Pennington's header secured Rovers the three points as they climbed up to 17th.

A division lower, Ryan Williams claimed an assist on an eventful day for Oxford United in their 1-0 win over Torquay United. Williams ran through the centre of the Torquay defence before feeding Deane Smalley to score what proved to be the winner with a simple finish after just six minutes. The result saw Oxford climb to sixth place in League Two but, shortly after the final whistle, manager Chris Wilder resigned from his position.

Marcus Bettinelli and Accrington Stanley saw their home game with Bury postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Finally, Bryan Ruiz made his home debut for PSV Eindhoven as they defeated AZ Alkmaar 1-0 to climb up to sixth in the Eredivisie. Jetro Willems scored the only goal of the game in the second minute, with Ruiz replaced in injury time."

You could leave Ruiz off these updates if you like C58. I don't think many of us care too much how he is doing. I do like the updates on the kids though. They seem to be doing pretty well.

But what will you moan about then! Especially with Senderos not playing.
