fair points, i cant argue with any of that <ok>

what i would say is that if MM does want to leave, then in this day and age he will get his move. he would be worth £500k yes, but as you said if you do get that money, your budget is £10m so that would add 5% to it - not to be sniffed at when your in financial trouble, we would know that more than most.
 
What makes you think Cardiff are "so confident"? They've barely said a word about the entire process.

Dinas - pleased to see you've joined us over here. For your first post, I think you are right on the money.

All the noises being made about MM seemed to emanate from the direction of the North London Outpost - CCFC have as you say, barely said a word on ther matter up until now - exactly the right thing to do during this process.

But over the whole season you finished in 14th place, how could anyone argue that didn't reflect the season as a whole?

Only an idiot would claim that, and only an idiot would deny that Malky Mackay is a poor compromise.
 
Everything is a compromise - whether or not Mackay is a "poor" one is not something for you to call other people idiots over when there's frankly reasonably little existing evidence over how good a manager any of the leading candidates are - they each only have a few years experience behind them, and all in quite varied situations so as to make direct comparisons difficult.

O'Neill is the outstanding candidate out of work at the moment, but that's not going to happen.

Hughton is my next choice because even though anybody could have got that Newcastle team promoted, he was performing very well indeed in the following season in the PL.

Di Matteo had a slightly harder job getting promoted, and had a slightly harder job of performing in the PL. He stagnated a little towards the end, which is why he is my third choice.

I would even have Derek McInnes from St Johnstone before I even entertained the thought of Malky Mackay.

Yes, he may well be a decent manager, but we don't want a decent manager, we want a manager capable of building a squad fit for the top table. Malky Macakay, in my opinion, and if you were to really think about it, probably most others as well, is most definitely NOT that man.

Sort it out and sign Hughton or Di Matteo, the last thing we need is another manager who doesn't have a clue.
 
Just been reading some of your posts above and you seem to think that Malky would be paid about £300,000 pa.

If that is what he is worth, then with almost three years left on his contract at Watford, he must have a price of close on £900,000.

It seems fairly simple.
 
It may seem simple calculated like that, but that's not how contract buy-outs work, and never has been.
 
I think I read that Malky is on about 120k at Watford so to buy out his contract in full would be about 350k.

Most contracts have a get out clause so maybe 300k would be a very good deal for Watford

But you have nothing we want... the board of Watford do and their idea of a fair price maybe very diferent that you. If not as you say we can walk away and at 900k I think we would.
 
I think you got the point I was trying to make Rhondda. Just pointing out the normal ways that business works. Personally I am not trying to sell anything.

My sources tell me that you offered £600,000 to talk to him, but our owner wanted £800,000.

My source maybe right, he quite often is. He maybe wrong this time, but we will have to wait and see what unfolds.

Exactly - THAT is how the price is worked out. Not by multiplying his salary by the number of years on his contract. This post (which I completely agree with) is completely different to your previous post, which I disagreed with.

Edit: Oh, and there's no way anyone would pay hundreds of thousands of pounds just to talk to the guy. It would be something along the lines of: "ok, you can talk to him, but if any deal is done you owe us X". Not, "ok, you give us X and then you can ask him whether he's even interested / find out if you really want him". The payment would be to pay out his contract, not to buy an interview with him.
 
Dinas, that is not how the price is worked out, it is up to the seller to work out the price. It then becomes an option for the buyer to pay it, try to get a discount, or walk away.

I think we should leave this now, they are obviously very mentally challenged down those ways. If even this is too hard for them to comprehend, I would like to be at their high school the first time someone tries to explain trigonometry.

They'll probably think the "Cosine" is some sort of "joint loan".

Actually, they probably don't even know what "co-sign" means....

I presume you mean to buy his contract not to talk to him (who said that talk is cheap) .... I would be surprised if we offered 600k so early but as you say we will have to wait and see what unfolds

The normal way that discussions take place in order to prevent tapping up, is that a manager under contract is not allowed to speak to a club without his current clubs permission. That is why Cardiff had to make an official approach to Watford, and had to talk compensation. Unless that sum can be agreed they are still not allowed to talk to the manager. It is quite possible that an approach has been made and Watford could have said we are not interested in even talking about money as he is not going anywhere.
 
I don't know why you think I don't know all this - the only part I disagreed with you on is that compensation figures are calculated by multiplying salary by no. of years left.
 
Maybe I misunderstood what you were saying Dinas, but I read your edit along with some others above as suggesting that whatever the outcome you would have to pay money up front.

My only point of raising a specific figure was to show that Watford could ask for whatever they wanted and then it would be up to Cardiff to decide if they wanted to go down that road.

Slavery has been abolished.

There is nothing to stop MM resigning................he might find himself in a law suit for breach of contract, but he can walk out any time he likes.

Or on the other hand he could stay and pick players out of position...........or flood the first team with youth team players. I don't know if MM has made up his mind to leave, but if he has, well there is no point in keeping an unhappy manager..........if Cardiff have offered a reasonable level of compensation and MM has made his mind up to go well Watford would be better off cutting their losses and take whats on offer,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,it's not nice, it's not fair, but its football in this day and age, and all clubs have suffered to a certain extent................Man Utd wanted to keep Ronaldo for instance, but not an UNHAPPY Ronaldo, so they took what they could get.
