I used to play full back at 11 a side, my wage demands wouldn't be unrealistic and I am available on a free.

Agree. Shaw would be a big miss for me. Targett could be the long term asnwer but not sure he's ever made the first team squad yet.

In an ideal world we would have an immediate replacement. However i think chambers and clyne would be good enough but yeah our depth would be lacking.

I think Shaw will be here til summer at the very least anyway, 30m would numb the pain if he wasn't but end our flirtation with the top 8.

I find it amazing that anyone would be willing to pay that much for Shaw. Yes, he's a good player and he has a lot of potential, but there are some pretty major weaknesses to his game at the level he'll be expected to play if he signs for a big team. He's a very solid defender (especially for his age) but he has the tendency to switch off at times, and although he gets forward well he more often than not just ends up passing the ball back anyway. I'd say he averages a good cross once every two or three games.

I'm sure he'll improve and those weaknesses are not really a big problem for us (indeed he's a very good player for us in spite of them), but for a team like Chelsea or United who need to be buying superstars to keep them at the level they're accustomed to, it's far from certain he would be good enough. I think he'd be a bigger loss for us than he would be a signing for them, so I'd be surprised if anyone stumped up enough for us to sell him.

Absolutely spot on. If pushed, a good deal for us right now would be Bertrand plus cash.

I would absolutely love Shaw to be here for the long term, and progress with us, but it seems as though the big clubs won't let that happen. I dream of the day when we will be able to hold on to our young players and not seen as someone for the big clubs to scavange. Maybe Shaw will be the turning point.

I think we need the money to spend on a strikerkaku more than we need Luke Shaw in the long term.

So MP thinks we may well sign someone before close of window.

Let's start talking REAL nonsense now, it's like permission has been given!

MP on possible transfer deals: “As the manager, I am fully focused on tomorrow’s match. We have other people to look after them.” #saintsfc

My first thought is this means the end for Dani? MP said before the window that we didn't need signings, now they are addressing the balance?

That sounds to me like confirmation of Osvaldo out and a striker in...

Maybe, but three weeks ago he said the squad was fine, and now they're looking to bring someone in. What's changed? The only thing I can think of is that our Striker assaulted our Centre Back.

I think that sounds like, with Osvaldo suspended, Lambert injured, Lovren and Ramirez out long-term, he feels the need to bring someone in.

I don't think it indicates anything about Osvaldo going.

Yeah, I would say probably that Osvaldo is now available, and we are probably also more open to bringing someone in due to the injuries to Lovren and Ramirez (and also if Osvaldo leaves).

Don't think I'd go so far as to say it's confirmed Osvaldo is leaving or that we'll get a striker back. I'm taking MP's words at face value-- that we're looking seriously at some possibilities but nothing is decided yet.

Agreed. If it was anything other than Osvaldo then surely he wouldn't have been so sure of the squad 3 weeks ago? Unless he feels he needs another CB but it's not like Lovren is out for the rest of the season? I think Fonte will recover quick enough :emoticon-0110-tongu

    With you on that.

I think it also *might* indicate that a preferred, scouted option is available this month for the right price.

But a couple of weeks ago he was quoted as saying "we have a lot of young players ready to come into the first team" or something. Youth players to cover injuries isn't upsetting the balance too much. Letting someone leave permanently would be.

Meh, it's a wait-and-see jobby. It would be nice if we did bring someone in though, if only to dispel the boardroom/owner crisis stories once and for all.

I had a really lucid dream last night that we'd brought in a 6ft 7" monster of a Serbian defender.

I realise this may be the most boring post ever, but a Serbian/Croatian partnership would be interesting.
