Is the Nolan deal good business or madness?

  1. It is a discrace

  2. I'm very disappointed, but worse things could happen

  3. Its seems not bad business, due to Nolan Attributes

  4. Its a good deal!

Great plan, rely on a player coming back from a career threatening double leg break. What could possible go wrong?

Im also annoyed how JB thinks that jose and jonas futues hinge on their contracts surely thats not true fair enough JB and barton are decent players but there not world class there not big names either surely jonas leaving would effect jose more. You cant honestly expect me to belive jose and jonas would leave cos nolan and barton are? Especially when we are getting better players like cabaye in? I know nolan was outstanding in the champ but we dont owe him anything it was his job! He player well but he doesnt deserve the club to keep him on stupid amount for next 5 years

In case you missed it, Ben Arfa scored a 30-yard strike which won us a game as well as showing he was class in a few other games. As for the two strikers, I expect at least one to be miles ahead of what we have (whereas Cabaye is debatable with Nolan and I feel he should have to prove himself) and the other I'd like to see clearly better than what we have, but maybe Best should start

No you always have certain senior players in any successful team Sir Bobby, who knew a bit about football, called them his blue chip brigade. He understood football though, our owners haven't the foggiest.

No but scoring one, albeit class, goal in September isn't valid reason to start ahead of Jonas or somebody surely? I mean why should he get into the team, based on something that will have happened 11 months ago by the beginning of the season?

Cabaye has just won the league and is a much better footballer than Nolan. No debate there.

I think any new strikers should start up front to be honest, was just pointing out the huge flaws in your logic.

Whether he was a starter or not, he is needed. Last season showed us that it's inevitable that at some point we will have injuries / suspensions so strength in depth is essential.

I don't know that though. Sure, the positive things being said about him have got me excited but the OP asked 'would YOU have even started Nolan'. I haven't seen him, so I'd go safe and play who I know is good. Then let it merge from there, like Hughton did with Ben Arfa and Tiote who were both subs for a couple of games and had to show they could do it in the EPL. Break them in slowly then if they prove to be better give them starts.

Based on simple footballing ability, NOT IN A MILLION YEARS! Cabaye TWICE the player, Arfa TWICE the technical maestro & Tiote/Barton TWICE the CM's. <ok>

Will be missed simply because of his leadership, goals, team spirit & influence. Otherwise he's average.

Saw a lot of formations a few months ago, 9 out of 10 having no Nolan in. I've never been his biggest fan (I do however realise what he's done for the club) but I wouldn't have put him in the starting line-up. Would have been great back-up, but his wages are far too high for us to leave on the bench.

Me too Sir Bobby, I like Cabaye but he has it all to prove in England. He has never played out of the comfort zone of his hometown club. He has even alluded to this in his interview. As i've said previously, a good club keeps both.

But he was sub for the Blackpool game. Irrelevant point though. That's simply how I'd do it. Softly, softly

    In response to Nolan:

So, he gets the contract and wages he wants at 55k a week and off he goes. Regardless of the club he's currently at, or the privilege of being captain, once someone, anyone, met his demands, he was off.

Seems to be just like any other player unfortunately. I have a feeling that Nolan may know that he's losing fitness and knows he will gradually start losing form, so he's demanded a 5 year deal to make sure that he's gonna have a secure job and get paid a wage right up until he's 35 - regardless of how well he plays.

Unfortunately for West Ham, they were the suckers who paid it. If he stays put, they'll be paying a 34/35 year old Nolan £55,000 per week. God knows what he's gonna be like then.

Think he just wants to play football, and he knows he won't be able to do that as much now for us. He'll be a big player for West Ham, not just a big character.

Lol Nolan for 5 years on £55 grand. Not surprised Nolan took that, he only has 2 good years left in him.

West Ham are really going down the ****ter.
