Day 85: The light at the end of the tunnel getting very bright now. The wait is soon to be over hopefully. ⚽️

    Great news!

With Aluko hopefully back for Tottenham/Sunderland game, Brady returning to fitnesses and new signings of Long and Jelavic very excited times ahead.
Struggle to see how to fit them all in one team and remain defensively solid though.

We don't need to fit everyone into one team. We are close to having a squad. Good times ahoy!

Its great to at last get some pace back into the team. Hopefully Brady will soon get back to is best he looked good in the short time we so him at the weekend, Long is very quick and lets hope Aluko is over his injury problems because he gives the side another dimension. One thing for certain with these three in the side we will break out much quicker

    Surely you'll play 4-4-2?

Probably not exactly. Aluko wil probably sit behind Jelvic and Long in front of huddlestone and livermore.

Is Aluko not comfortable on the wing? I thought he was.

    Long Jelavic
    Brady Huddlestone Livermore Aluko

I don't mind saying it. I hope can get an attacking force half as good as that if we go up.

    It's a nice thought - but that line-up is simply too gung-ho.

By all acounts he is quite good there. Most of us seem to think that he will be used directly behind them with Elmo on the right wing. Either way I would think both formations will be used at least a few times.

It sure looks like you are going to go up. I dont think you will have to much trouble signing a bunch of good players. Hopefully you come up and we both stay up for a while. Far better banter with you all then the sunderland supporters.

He can play there but in the number 10 role is better as it means he gets more of the ball. He also played on the left more than the right, but for the most part of his career he hasn't been a winger.

    I'd go:

    ----------McG
    --Chester--Davies--Bruce
    Elmo-Thudd-Livermore-Brady
    ---------Aluko--------------
    -----Long--Jela-----------

We hardly ever play a 4 man midfield. Even with Huddlestone and Livermore, Bruce clearly doesn't have the faith in them to win a midfield battle without a 3rd partner in there. Very few managers of mid-to-bottom PL teams do.

Looks great on paper and I'd love to see it, but as above I think it's unlikely we'll see it much if at all.

    Maybe something like:
    Back 4
    Huddlestone Livermore
    Long Aluko Brady
    Jelavic

    ------------- Shagger
    Elmo - McShane - Davies - Brady
Livermore - Big Tom - Quinniesta
    ------ Long - Jelavic - Aluko

    Hows that for attack minded?

Sack Brucey get Keegan in and start beating the like of Man City 7-6

Well the problem is, while our 'front 4' is very, very good for this league I think we'd be found out in the PL.

The one player that interests me is Vardy. His game is all about running at players. I like to think he'd be able to have the same effect in the PL but i'm not going to hold my breath. One thing is for sure. He's ****ing quick.

I think Nugent is ready for another shot, he has a point to prove in the PL.

Lloyd Dyer is getting older but his legs aren't slowing him down. But I think his position is one to look at. I think you need end product, which is in short supply with him.

Anthony Knockaert is ready and, it's too young to tell with Riyad Mahrez, despite his very impressive cameo against Boro yesterday.

Exciting times for both clubs <cheers>

You could say that but I'd argue it solves a lot of problems. Keeps the 3-5-2 which we've got the players for and Bruce likes. Gets rid of Figueroa, who's been ****e. Elmo & Brady played as wing-backs all last season.

Maybe we could just set up like that at home and play something more conservative away, but I'd I don't think your line-up is any more solid than mine, and it'd mean dropping Elmo and playing Figueroa.

I'm with playing Aluko "in the hole", he'll replace Koren, he's much quicker too..

I agree I love the 3-5-2 because the likes of Elmo, Brady and Quinn seem to suit it so well. Also a front two from Jelavic, Long and Aluko will be awesome whichever one it is.

The only thing I'd argue with about your team is Aluko behind a front two. That's essentially a front 3 and would be very attacking. It's another thing I'd love to see but no manager would dare to do it.

The problem with that is most teams nowadays play a front 4, so why can't we have a front 3? Tbh, Aluko would offer about as much defensively as Koren, very little.

We played with Koren, Sagbo and Jela against Norwich, and Aluko would just take Koren's place, how is that any different?

Agree with that. If we ever fit Aluko, Brady, Jelavic and Long on the pitch at once I reckon it would be in a 4-4-2 with one of Elmo or Brady playing full back, most likely Elmo.

In a 3-5-2 with Brady at wing back I'd have Quinn on the left of a midfield 3 every day, their link up play is second to none.

A 4-3-1-2 could fit the lot in together but it would eliminate the wide men getting crosses in to Jelavic which he thrives on so doubt we'll ever see that.
