I'm not going to criticse anyone who has the effort and skill to actually come up with a design and share it with the world. But the Mod Q is vastly superior.
I was a graphic designer for 20 years and I think the problem is we've had so many variations none is really THE definitive one. I have good memories of some of the older ones from when I was young and had the logo on shirts and mugs etc. It's a bit like saying who is your favourite Dr Who as it depends which you grew up with. Hate to say it but I think they did a pretty good job evolving the last Arsenal logo to the current one. I like Paul's one because I like it's simplicity but there's something a but 'Reading' about it.
For my 2p's worth, I think my avatar badge is the most recognisable and classic in terms of design (just my opinion); I guess though it depends on when you first started supporting the hoops as to what badge you latched on to (if indeed you did). DT's design is indeed a superb start, and I wonder if we could stick with his circular design but have an updated version of the QPR Football somehow incorporated. Reflecting old and new, as it were, I.e what would it look like to chop out the old circular ball/lettering and place it on top of DT's design? I'm mindful of it looking 'busy' so that should be about it. Might look totally wrong, of course..... Great effort from DT and only a tweak or two and I for one am happy.
Thats the Hammersmith and Fulham borough crest Hoops. We weren't in the Borough (indeed it didn't exist as a local government unit) when we were formed, in Queen's Park. So either we didn't have a badge/club crest until well into our history, or it's been lost. Bushman, help! ......based on some rapid net research I don't think we had a badge at all until the 50's (Hammersmith & Fulham) and also didn't have one for some time 60s - 70s. Since 75 we have joined the merry-go-round of multiple redesigns. So, traditionalists, to stay true to the vast majority of our past, we should not have a badge at all.
I have of course done a lot of variations re the Q and went in the end went against it looking like a defined Q and arrived that the shape would be great if it contained everything like a circle or a ring or a definition of a hoop. Maths also plays a part here ... If you stare hard enough you should see of course a football made of just three hoops .... the perfect circle around that is of course very important to give that illusion. The tail splits one hoop but is contained by the outside one. The logo is about taking complete ownership of influence of what I see as us ... the defining years of course i have cherry picked ... example our cup win of 67 we played in white ... really could we ever go forward with a white shirt? its a retro strand at best. Footballs ... seriously we cannot use clip art here IMO not in 2014 or anything that looks like it ... we have to aim higher I would ask all fans of our club to stare at our current badge and look at the football and good luck defending that element in any critique If you look at the old QPR badge from 67 I hope some can see exactly where i have tick boxed a lot of the question posed I dropped the shield as i took elements off the page ... for shape reasons really it that simple Very important to me that we encapsulate as much as we can about QPR in the most simple of designs that will stand the test of time and grow and become a marketeers dream Loads of ideas behind this project but IMO the solution has to be simple. I am a designer/director and a marketeer and of course this means very little to me compared to the buzz I get watching our club ... football comes first but its a business and nothing works without money in the city which is the centre of football on the planet ... name a city with as many teams in it?
Very cool work and a brilliant return to what many will see as our defining badge ... get London into it and it's a winner IMO PS plus a white out
The circular ones are too much a 'bit Chelsea' for my liking. Amazing skills. Huge respect to all but I'm happy with what we have.
Cheers DT - I think the 'London' on the badge is an interesting idea - I guess it's a case of more of the global branding coming in? I think what I always liked about these classic badge initials is the subliminal 'Q' that the tails of the 3 letters make. I can see that you have produced a modern version of that with your 1882, and it certainly adds to the overall uniqueness of the design. The circle/hoop is by far my preferred shape, and as we spoke about a while ago really provides a badge to sit alongside the greats of European football. The simplest solutions are more often than not the ones that have longevity and go on to become classics. I would love to think that next year when the players trot out, they have a badge that comes from the community and feels like it has its roots in the history of the club, whatever it looks like.
Totally agree any new badge introduction must be seamless and your design does that for me as you have retained the freedom of the Q whereas mime has to contain it or else I am in the Quicktime or O2 field I think you have cleaned and refreshed and made sense of the original design and I like it very much
Not bad at all but a little bit too much red in it - if that could be reduced I guess it would be worth thinking about it.
Wow still cant believe the results of the question The badge is an important part of the club's identity, but not critical I know i am coming from a marketing view but IMO brand is everything and has to be if you want success ... we are a club about to move and expand ... something that rarely happens in a club's history If we ever want to play with the big boys on the field then we have to get everything right off it and that starts with the brand it's ID ... get that wrong and our club may have a new suit but will always be wearing flip flops. If you need to look at how not to do it then take a look at our club shop online and then take into account what has happened to us in just 6/7 years. It has to be right and no excuses or we will be playing catch up forever in terms of brand Wonder why the club store have a massive 70% sale now? Has anyone seen what we sell? ... we should be thinking a TATE/V&A standard for our club at the very least. Not Critical? do it a professional way and we could overtake a lot of London clubs in a very short time regardless of the football ... It is Critical IMO this is 2014 it's all connected
