Two things wrong with this post , the thought you may have friends any where let alone the club and that you have faith in Huw Jenkins . sorry only a will do .As my old teacher used to say , must try harder
Dai, I like to think I've got the patience of an angel, but even I'm running out of it with your constant anti Laudrup posts. Give it a break will you ? We hear you - no need to keep repeating.
Also Dai, you are the only person calling for MLs head, so please don't make out that WE are all calling for his head, as those posts will be edited.
The tide has turned gents, and our injured are coming back one after the other, with some good transfer news in as well, and with some good vibes in the dressing room after Saturdays win, which will get even better after Tuesday night when we put Fulham to the sword! The Jacks are on the move, upwards and onwards............. please log in to view this image
Laudrup may have his faults and he may not be the finished managerial product, neither were Brendan or Martinez but he had very good first year. There were rumours of upset over the summer which was suggested to be related to the over reliance on the agent. By the way he had seemed to be pretty successful in terms of Michu, Chico & Hernadez. Laudrup signed an extension which was probably to protect us when he left after a planned two years. HJ or some "old Players" may continue to be unhappy. Of course, no fan is happy with our present situation but as new small PL club, if we are to survive in this division we are going to have to deal with the risk of relegation at the very least occasionally. Everyone including players, manager, board and fans have to be prepared for this. Laudrup chose to work with a small squad of good quality rather than a bigger squad with slightly less quality ( we could not afford or attract players to sit on the bench week in week out - struggling now with a few (Taylor) ) We have been hit with a lot of injuries, any team would suffer, but perhaps we are doing something wrong in training or conditioning? We seemed to have some defensive security, may be because are full back are pushing forward more or a tendency to play one true holding midfield and the other more attacking ( Shelvey or DG) I would like to see Britton and Canas or someone new. Ability to counter at speed effected by loss of Dyer and need for Bony to defend at corners as well as Tremmel's distribution not being as good as Vorm. Laudrup probably has always planned to go at end of season but HJ seems to have made some public negative comments re-cost of Bony and publicly praising Brendan and Martinez while saying absolutely nothing about his present manager. Not matter what he thinks or how quickly he wants him to leave this is not good. HJ and possibly older players have a little bit of history of pulling the rug from underneath managers to encourage their departure or at least not support them in the window before he think they will leave. The problem is now we are in the PL the potential consequences for this approach are huge - relegated, loss of manager and players, loss of funds, ? plans to expand. So HJ and board need to work with ML, I have no doubt if injured players come back ands everyone stays positive we could still very well this season. I suspect we need to strengthen defensively and I agree we need a creative midfielder who will tackle ie a Bodde or perhaps a PL version of Prately?? We do need the spirit of Monk to work with the present squad to get through this but now is not the time to be starting fires. Media pick up on this nonsense and before we now it we are spiralling downwards instead of using Bony's form and return of players to gain some positive momentum. PS I apologise if I have repeated some of the points I have made before, but we seem to go around in circles with this.
Couldn't agree more neathjack, I do think that Jenkins should not have gone public on his disquiet on the ethos emanating from the manager and dressing room, but it looks to me that he's having difficulty this season holding his nerve, I would like to see our board bury the hatchet and come out publicly behind Laudrup, so that we can truly rescue this season, it's in our hands to do it, and we all need to pull together on this one, the boardroom and dressing room need to be singing from the same hymn sheet in my view, here's to a resounding win against Fulham on Tuesday! Onwards and upwards for the Jack Army....................
Well said neath , I almost feel better, although I'm not sure why lol . But for the first time , the halo I put on huw is fading , be it just a smidgen
When a board plays games by guaranteeing players starts or appearances it automatically compromises the manager and coaching team. If true this shakes my confidence in them as stewards of the club for today and tomorrow. It is just plain bad business in business to make such guarantees to an employee, and it is amplified in football. It is not ML that should be scrutinized it is the Board and the Trust need to delve into this and determine first whether it is true and if so the supposed justification for it .... otherwise the Trust is not fulfilling its role but being a doting lap dog.
That's a very good point well made Yankee. ....but, what if the calibre of player we now require has little or no interest in joining us and living in this part of the world when he has many more glamorous opportunities on the table, offering more money? Do we bow to the occasional player demand in order to secure the quality? Or do we tell them to do one and search for young hungry players who offer no guarantees but possess potential and are grateful for the opportunity we are giving them (David Ngog for example)? It's a tricky one... I just feel so sorry for Laudrup at the moment having to field questions from the morons in the press trying to whip up a **** storm as it is what they thrive on...I imagine him going home to the wife and saying something like "Christ the British are stupid!" He is still polite though in the face of people who are unnecessarily piling unwarranted pressure on he and his young players. All he has to say is; - compare these last 8 games to how we did against the same teams in the same fixtures last season - injuries - Swansea's spend/budget compared to our rivals - first trophy - further in the FA cup than we go 9/10 seasons - European football delivered and qualified for the knockout stages...which is better than clubs with squads and budgets the size of Liverpool and Newcastle have done in this competition recently. If it were me I'd add "Now **** off" and leave, but this fella is a gentleman, a class act. Wonder if we'll see many posters and pundits etc. admit how wrong they were come March, or even apologise for the **** thrown the great man's way. I ****ing doubt it.
I sure liked it better when you had to guess what Huw was thinking . Huw 's " between the line " media talks are making for uncertainty at the club, and with our manager, just an opinion.
Terror ... there are plenty of way to motivate a player to sign such as paying a player a premium for quality through at-risk bonuses and additional points on branded merchandise sales and so on, and then there are "incentives" or more properly "randsom" that compromise your manager and provide a player, with even the slightest lazy streak or self-centeredness, to give less than you expect. Guaranteeing starts is just a plain dumb way to go about dealing with a player. And like you I am getting just ticked off of hearing about all of the anti-Laudrup threads in the media.
Starting tonight hopefully! On behalf of HJ though, he was instrumental in bringing ol' Mickey Blue eyes here,in the first place. I just think he's been a bit naïve when dealing with the media and should be more circumspect when answering leading questions , just my view.
Interesting to see HJ notes in tonight's match programme where he states that ' it is how we do against the big teams, and not so much how we do against teams round us that will be important'. ( not word for word, but you get my drift). I think this is a ' pop' at laudrups view that how we do against the top sides is not as important as how we do against sides around us. If I had to choose one point of view only I would have to agree with laudrup.
Well if Huw Jenkins thinks that he is a Twat, plain and simple ! Anyway ,what the fck does the chairman want ? we beat Man utd in the cup and have come up short against the big teams only because they are coming to us and playing us like they would another big team!! Jenkins just needs to shut his mouth and concentrate on running the club, just because he doesnt have the people skills to deal with Laudrup he doesnt need to blade the bloke in our program notes !! Everyone needs to be 100% together, failed buisness man Huw Jenkins needs to think about doing his own job properly as all things considered the way we do things as a club is well below the required standard . If he wants Laudrup beating the big teams buy him the big players. Huw and the board are starting to fck me right off to be honest, i get the idea they have inflated ego's and think they know everything about the game . They dont !! The running of the Swans as a premier league football club is a joke, maybe they should do their own jobs before worrying too much how other people are doing ! Makes me mad to be honest, shut the **** up and back the manager YOU employed !!
Totally agree. Jenkins should shut his uninformed trap and the quicker the better. Even if you know nothing about football, his statement defies all logic. Even if we beat some of the big boys, they will always finish above us. Beat those around us, it keeps them below us and us in the Premier League. Stupid, stupid, statement by Jenkins. He should just belt up and leave these things to the professionals - something he is NOT!!
