http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jan/26/manchester-united-yohan-cabaye-newcastle?

Manchester United are considering making a bid for Yohan Cabaye, who is valued at £25m by Newcastle United, in the last days of the transfer window, though the champions face competition from Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

David Moyes's priority is to strengthen his midfield and though Cabaye is not considered by the United manager to be in the very highest bracket of player, the 28-year-old is proven in the Premier League and a France international who, it is felt inside Old Trafford, would help United's push for a Champions League place.

While United would price Cabaye at less than £25m, the club's hierachy recognise that a premium will have to be paid to attract players, as was shown by their willingness to spend £37.1m on Juan Mata.

PSG currently value Cabaye at around £17m, while Arsenal had what Alan Pardew, the Newcastle manager, described as a "derisory" £10.2m offer rejected for the Frenchman last summer. Arsène Wenger, though, remains interested in taking him to the club.

Moyes also retains an interest in the Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos, and attended the German champion's game against Borussia Monchengladbach, where he was spotted speaking with Kroos's agent Sascha Breese, over the weekend.

Kroos's contract expires at the end of next season and it is thought he would cost around £20-25m. Mario Mandzukic, the Bayern striker, is also being monitored by Moyes.

Newcastle supposed to be in discussion with PSG over the transfer of Yohan Cabaye according to Get French Football twitter page. Seems to be one of the more reliable pages. Sounds like he's going there.

I'd hate for Cabaye to go but if he stays this season he's almost certainly off in the summer. It might make more sense to sell now, but only if we get to see the money reinvested.

If we can sell him in January and get more of a premium for him we could then move the entire squad forward as when we sold Carroll. We'd need to immediately bring in a Carr recommended replacement (Cabella/Grenier/Siem de Jong?) and a striker. Assuming we'd have no more time left this winter we'd then need to further strengthen in the summer. The Cabaye replacement would have half a season to acclimatise to English football in a campaign where we are already out of all cups and unlikely to finish in the top six or get relegated.

If Cabaye is leaving sell him abroad to someone like PSG, I don't want Man Utd getting him.

If we sell Cabaye it doesn't mean we will bring in anyone this transfer window. If a bid comes it will come on friday when its too late to bring anyone in and that fat little **** David Craig will report it with relish.

Have a feeling this will be a horrible window with Cabaye to go and no in comings at all.

I'm trying to keep a tiny bit of positivity at the back of my mind mate but that will only last until Tuesday - if we don't sign anyone in the next few days I don't think we will bring anyone in.

You are probably right. If GFN France are correct then Cabaye is almost certainly gone. No doubt we'll make sure that negotiations last until 1 minute before the window closes.

Really, once the NUFC management team are reasonably certain of a sale they should get the replacement in. Why wait until selling clubs know you have £25million in your pocket?

At least £25 million for him. Remy Cabella to replace him. If we sell and don't replace immediately there will be hell on.

    Cheers.

I seriously hope that if we do sell (and I hope we don't) that it would take really stupid money. £14 million probably wouldn't even get like for like and I'd want silly money to get a like for like replacement and striker out of it

This will drag on for a few days then go quiet. Then on Friday they will come back in for around 22.5 million, we will sell and then claim we won't be held to ransom by other clubs for potential signings but rest assured the club will strengthen in the summer. Just the same bullshit we prayed wouldn't happen but deep down we all knew that it would.

not too hopeful that ashley will hold out for the 35mil he suposedly valued cabaye at....that way we can use the 35 mil to strengthen the whole squad like we did witht he mandy money .... althogh replacing someone like cabaye will be hard...i recon we should go for someone yound like mutch at cardiff...hes a real good prospect

Theone thing reassuring me, is that for all the reputation Ashley has for selling off the family silver, the fact is that hasn't been the case so far. I might be wrong, but since being promoted I think the only player we have sold that the club didn't want rid of was Andy Carroll. And for us to get that £35 million what price did he knock back? There is a part of me that holds out hope that MA isn't the sell off merchant we like to accuse him of being. If we got stupid money offered I wouldn't blame them for selling. But only for stupid money.

Ideally though we'd keep Cabaye AND strengthen the squad, but now I am getting carried away <laugh>

haha we can all hope for that ! but that is true ashley hasnt been too bad with selling...but would you rather we sold him not for 20 odd mil or he bought out his contract at the end of this season and we end up with no where near as much....

Sky now reporting that we're holding out for €24m (£20m). I think we could fleece them for about €28m in the current market and given PSG's wealth, but there you go.

I'll say it again - we'll sell Cabaye and get no f**ker in.

20 mil would be a steal would be upset if they sold for that! especially when ashley supposedly values him a lot higher and is his favorite player at the club

To me £20 million is far too cheap when compared to others. I'd rate him as better than Fellaini, but perhaps the club know he would go for far less in the summer. I still think way more than £20 mill should be needed tho. We don't need to sell so we should hold all the cards.
