"You'd have staked your life on Emile Heskey bulging the back of the net from there".

Sagbo is the new Heskey - just hopefully without misses from that range.

His missus is a model called Chantelle Tagoe.

I really hope that when they first met he pointed to her and said: "I'll have that one, 'Tagoe', please.

Heskey is probably the most misunderstood players of his or any generation. He was a good player.

Is he ****. He just played in an era when there were literally no English forwards. Any other era and he would have been nowhere near an England squad.

Heskey was an effective player when used right, as a target man to supply others. That role has largely died out - as with the traditional poacher - but there certainly was an era when that combination was able to thrive.

Lineker would probably struggle to have the same impact these days the same way Hernandez does at Man Utd (and Michael Owen dropped off as times changed) but you can't say he wasn't a damn good player in his era.

Ask the strikers of Liverpool when he was at his peak who they most preferred to play with.

He scored over 10 goals in a PL season 4 times and he's never been known as a goalscorer. You can't deny the fact that he was a good player.

Could we bring him to make Graham feel better about himself to make Faye think he's a sprinter??

That good Liverpool got rid of him at 26. Sorry Andy he was average. Along with Crouch. Any other era and they would have got nowhere near the England squad.

I'd agree (which you might expect) ... those who got to see him week in week out - particularly when he first emerged as a teenager, know how good he really was ...

... you are right about Crouch ... wrong about Heskey ... Crouch would never have left the great Paulo Maldini sprawled on his arse ... Heskey did ... and he was to my mind one of the best ever defenders ...

    ... Crouch <laugh> ... enjoy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ1AaZWB0Tc

    Aye, his age means loads....

Maybe it was something to do with the fact Liverpool had Milan Baros, Djibril Cisse and Fernando Morientes? Or that Birmingham offered £6.25m for him?

Crouch with his 1 in 2 goal per game ratio for England?

Chazz. I was lucky enough to see him play week in week out. I know how good he was.

He peaked early, yes. But he was still a very good footballer. You watch this and give me the name of another targetman who could do the same.

Skip to around 50 seconds in (unless you want to watch his goal then watch it all). I'd wager that you don't even have a winger who could put in a cross like that.

    Really?

I think Fryatt did a cross like that yesterday. Fryatt.

I refuse to believe that. I don't think I've ever seen him outpace anyone.

    Refuse to believe it, then.

Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
