You know the ones I mean great tyres of the past whose contribution could be overlooked or missed because it was not spectacular, hidden or unnoticed by most. Players who at times just to keep the team ticking over on the right track

To kick this off my vote is

Probably not quite "unsung", but Adam Drury doesn't always get the credit he deserved for the way he generally kept the left flank very solid, especially when Hucks was poor at getting back and helping him out.

Without doubt, for me, Drury was the best signing and value for money that the club have ever made, in my lifetime anyway.

Agree about Drury but he did get player of the year, the team captaincy, club captaincy, entry into hall of fame and a hugely publicised testimonial so I'm not so sure he was so unsung! I do get what you mean though - there probably weren't too many kids that wanted his name on the back of their shirt.

I'd like to mention Rob Newman. Never the most exciting name on the team sheet, always dependable. He spent 7 years with us, accumulating over 200 appearances. He was in our most successful team and played as a defender, midfielder and striker. Most importantly of all, I've just learnt from Wikipedia that he was reputed to have the hardest shot in England. If you didn't know these things it is because he is unsung!

I wonder if him and Brad Johnson would be interested in a wildly inaccurate shoot out competition? I wouldn't want to be behind that goal!

Better than the 400k we paid for Holty? Or whatever pittance we shelled out for Rusty?

John Polston would be another name to add to the list, very rarely does he ever get mentioned but he was a very dependable CB during some good times for the club. What happened to him when he left? I really can't remember where or why he went.

I would like to throw Darren Kenton in to the frame. While not quite up to the standard of Ian Culverhouse at right back, when he played in his natural position, I thought he was pretty solid throughout his time at Norwich. It was only when Hamilton played him as a left back that he looked total ****!

Definitely unsung and a good call. I guess our scouts didn't like travelling much at the time because Crook, Bowen, Culverhouse and Polston all came to us from Tottenham.

This is a little off topic but brought my mind to David Hodgson, I just looked him up and it says he only scored 1 goal before moving on. I feel certain he scored a hat-trick for us, does anyone recall whether this was in a friendly of some sort.

It was 25 years ago so I maybe got him confused with someone else.

You're not wrong, Flown From the Nest reckons he scored a League Cup Hat-trick against Millwall.

Wikipedias stats appearances and goals are just for league games. Hence the league cup hatrick's not there.
