I am just sitting back and waiting to see if AW actually buys a player we desperately need. No surprise then the player we are closest to buying is not what we really desperately need. I am not too bothered about us signing players like Gervinho. Don't get me wrong! Hes Good. But hes not class and we are not desperate for him. Lets see how much money AW spends. Hopefully no more then 10mil cos we need to heavily invest defensively first. United bagged Jones, who in my opinion will develop to be a class center back in the mold of John Terry. Where was Wenger? He was late. He made a move way too late just like he did with Smalling. If he went in early and coughed up the money, we could of got him. I can see us missing out on players like Samba and Cahill because AW will waste too much time crying over each and every penny. Then he will go out and sign an unknown defender who isn't quite what we need in terms of height, power, leadership, premiership experience and Ariel dominance. Honestly whats taking so long. Their are plenty of players who match our criteria. Samba, Cahill, Dann in the premiership and Subotic in the German league. What about some more steel in midfield like Scott Parker, Rodwell or Fellaini. I'm not saying buy them all but their is plenty to choose from and not all of them will cost a fortune like some might think, Samba, Dann and Parker shouldn't cost more then 10mil apiece. Thoughts?
Yeah I agree. Firstly Gervinho is a decent player but he's no better than any of the strikers we already have in the squad. I was hoping for a World Class addition like Higuain,Falcao or Benzema but that seems extremely unlikely. Neven Subotic would be my first choice signing for Arsenal but Cahill, Dann, Samba would all be improvements.
It will be just another summer of lies and no top class signings from Arsenal nothing will change!! Gervinho come on he'll never get us 20-30 goals which we crying out for!! And surely a defender should be the first signing TYPICAL Wenger!!!
Wenger seems to be interested in technically gifted centre halves rather than the traditional type. Djorou is a lovely footballer, but that's no good if he goes missing from long throws and set pieces 6 yards from goal. Even the worst teams win a corner or two in a game.
To be honest Arsenal just need to hold onto 2-3 top players and add a few good additions to improve on 4th place. Don't think Wenger needs a massive overhaul unless people like Nasri start to leave.
Yeah i posted an article about that recently. The best defenses throughout history traditionally have one more technical centreback and one ballwinner - Height is also important.(particularly when u dont have a tall midfield) We need to keep the squad together and add a few powerful more athletic players.
Also the weird thing is that we get linked to Hazard (Lilles best player) for ages then suddernly we put a bid in for their other forward Gervinho . Does'nt make any sense to me.
The thing is you don't know how these players will perform, or that any of the speculation is actually true For all we know we could sign gervinho and he'll score 40 goals a season and become the worlds best player
There are so many things wrong with this article that I don't know where to start. I guess firstly you should know that the international transfer window hasn't even opened yet so why are so so annoyed now? What did you expect, Wenger to buy 5 players in 2 weeks? Secondly you talk about Gervinho being good but not good enough (something I agree with by the way) and then you ask for average and overhyped players like Samba and Rodwell? Jesus christ there is no pleasing some people. Thirdly you talk like money is no object. Its all well and good saying we should sign this player and that but the transfer market for English players is ridiculously inflated at the moment, if you want to sign Rodwell he will cost over 20 million, would you really want to spend that on a player who is about as good as Denilson? Finally you act like any physical player will do for us, but to join a top club players need to have more in their locker than just strength. Signing tall players solely for their height is not the answer. Basically the situation isn't as simple as you think it is an there is no point being impatient at this point in time. If we are still having the same problems in a months time then it would be fine to make an article like but it is too early to make one now.
Fair enough robin, but the Arsenal central defence problem is not a new one. Remember for example the end of the 2009-10 season and the game v Blackburn where Blackburn stuck a couple of big guys under Fabianski and neither he or the defence could cope. In the cup last year v Stoke a long throw in the 1st few minutes and guess what...a goal. The buying of Silvestre is another example of poor purchases in that part of the team. Whilst I accept on the law of averages every team will eventually concede from a set play, Arsenal conceded too many last season, but it's not just something that has cropped up in the last few months. Wenger has been in the Prem for 15 years. He clearly knows how certain teams rely on set pieces. As I said earlier on even the poorest team will win a free kick they can lump into the box.
True, I completely agree that Wenger was wrong with his buying of defenders last summer. Although Koscielny is a good buy in my opinion (has had a quite good season this year but looks to have the ingredients to be a top CB) we should have bought a player who is good in the air instead of Squillaci, who was a poor buy. However there is still plenty of time to change the weaknesses we still have.
Firstly gervinho is a winger not a striker Also if he isn't good enough for us, Dann and Rodwell are?? What an earth are we to do with Rodwell, is he going to be a top class DM, do you reallly believe that. We need a winger, unless you enjoy watching theo and arshavin struggle to get past champioship full backs. None of the CBs you mentioned are brilliant, but we have got huge amounts of cash and the best we can do is get a balanced CB partnship, we need a bruiser to partner our more technical CBs.
Those who are saying that players like Dann, Samba, Jones and Rodwell are not good enough, have no idea what they are on about. Gervinho is a winger and doesnt really improve on what we have. Dann, Samba and Jones may not be Vidic or Pique, but they will improve our squad massively because they are exactly what we need and don't have. Height, Ariel dominance, strength and are proper defenders. We have not had defenders like that since Campbell, Adams, Keown etc. Players who just defend and do it well.
