I know we have been linked with him and I think he would be a great signing.

4/5 years younger than Nolan, can score the spectacular not just the taps in, managed 8 goals last season in a much weaker team than ours(only 4 less than Nolan) and his workrate and effort is far far superior.

    Good signing in my opinion!!

Not saying he would be a definate starter in our team but a don't think Nolan fell into that bracket for next season either!!! Thought i would add that in.

Good goalscoring record. Just depends on his CM abilities.

he got 3 red cards, so he would be committed and now Nolans gone, he would be an ideal replacement.

I think he just a slightly better version of Guthrie tbh and i'd rather not spend a couple of mil on him, rather it go somewhere else

Theres only one Nobby and its not Kevin Nolan. You can't steal a nickname from a legend like proper Nobby.

I want someone better than Craig Gardner to replace Nolan. Nolan was a huge influence on and off the field as well as being fully-committed and a good goalscorer, meaning that Gardner is far from the answer.

Cabaye will hopefully chip in with a few if we utilise him in a more attacking role than he was in this last season, and of course we have Ben Arfa who will be playing behind the striker(s).

Cabaye to be his replacement in CM and if we are to sign Gardner I can't see him being a starter just a good option as back up

Anyone who is seriously thinks Gardner is good enough for us is kidding themselves, he's a poor man's Joey Barton, bad business if we replace Nolan with him.

It mentions Cabaye where in the OP? I read it as Gardner into the team, as Nolan was last season with his 12 goals. If he's mentioning Gardner's 8 goals in a full season do you expect the same as a back up only playing here and there?

    A slightly different view.

I didn't want Nolan when he came, couldn't see what he offerred us. Opinion was confirmed in the way he played from joining to relegation.

Subsequently, my view has changed completely, his performances over the last 2 seasons have been very good in general and his goals an absolute bonus especially last season. However what endeared him to me most was his obvious affection of the club and fans. And for that I'm very sorry to see him go and look forward at some time to giving him a Sir Les type reception when he returns

What we are seeing now is a [maybe not so] subtle change in the club in terms of the major influences off the pitch. The new team will be very much Pardews given the changes in personnel that are about to take place. This will firmly establish him as the power at the club on the playing side.

In some ways another midfield player, Gardner, Barnetta or whoever comes in will not be Nolan's replacement, Pardew will.

And that's as it should be.
