Far east and west and north and south
In New York, Rome and Perth,
    And other odd localities
    Around this varied earth,
    They wait in anticipation
    Each week for Canary mirth

And for those who would follow live
    At some ungodly hour,
It proves just how, for some exiles
    It´s a lifelong amour,
    When once an NCFC fan
To taste the sweet and sour

´Tis many years ago since I
    Trod in those hallowed stands,
At Carrow Road, where now the seats
    Have replaced standing plans,
But every home game I´m still there
    In spirit with the fans

And so it is for all exiles
Who can´t be at the ground,
    We remember those years ago
Where we were to be found,
Even though things have altered much
    For those who look around

The Barclay and the River End
    Both only had one tier,
But that did not stop either one
    Ringing with atmosphere,
And every goal in early days
    The whole city would hear

    And that´s not being critical
    Of today´s fine support,
But forty thousand plus packed in
    Could give a rare report,
    More frightening than any cannon
    Shot from a cohort

These days of course for us exiles
    There´s always commentary,
In my case, it´s a weekly dose of
    Goreham - BBC,
Who helps to bring things alive so
    They´re easier to see

    For others it´s the internet
Where they pick up a stream,
    Hoping to see us triumphing
    Over some of the cream,
And good or poor on quality
They´re still there with the team

How times have changed from early years
    When listening to 5-Live,
After ending a late night gig
    I had my homeward drive,
    And heard on crackling radio
    Someone 2 Norwich 5

And if you missed it, well, bad luck
For that was all we got,
In those days City never made it
    Into the main slot,
Just one of "Oh, and by the way" ´s
    Of football´s melting pot

But we have moved on from those times
    And thank goodness for that,
From ´has been´ we are worthy now of
    Pre and post-match chat,
Which exiles all over the globe
Can hear from where they´re sat

So for an exile, life these days
Is as good as it gets,
Though not to be there on the spot
    Can sometimes give regrets,
    Especially like last weekend
When late goals burst the nets.

To all exiles, wherever we are, keep waving the green and yellow flag!

Well done to you stilljarrold, that's the kind of support to be proud of! <ok>

And well done to you RBF, you always manage to come up with a cracker <cracker>

I've not managed to get to CR for many a year now, I lived in Lincoln for 21 years but couldn't afford to travel the meagre 105 miles each way plus the ticket, I had to make do with the humble offerings from Sincil Bank! <steam>

How do you get the Radio Norfolk commentary outside of the county RBF? It's never available through the BBC web player during a match.

Last season I had a ST for was the league one promotion, since then I've been one of the exiles. Just accepted a new job (of sorts) in Bristol, which means the next season I stand any chance of getting a season ticket/regular games is 2019/20. <yikes> :emoticon-0106-cryin

Know how you feel jarold, but always had the urge to go abroad, and when work gave me the opportunity, I wasn´t going to turn it down, just didn´t know back then, that it would last a lifetime. :)

When you move to Bristol, do you fancy a meet-up for a pint or 3?

If you join ´Canary Player´ on canaries.co.uk DH, then you automatically get the Radio Norfolk match commentaries every game.

It won't be until late September at the earliest, but I'm sure that can be arranged. <ok>

Aah, was wondering if there was a free way, I'd forgotten about Canary Player. Might have to bite the bullet on that one and get a subscription.

Great verse RBF - cracking stanza this one:

The Barclay and the River End
    Both only had one tier,
But that did not stop either one
    Ringing with atmosphere,
And every goal in early days
    The whole city would hear

I remember being able to say "that's us scored another then" from a mile away. Now I rely on the tinterweb for the same! OTBC

I know it´s not free, but there´s a lot more to Player than just match commentaries, interviews, match highlights and other odds and ends, it´s certainly been a lifeline for me over here. <ok>

I have canaries player, pretty much just for the pre-season stuff and extended match highlights every week.

Kept it from when we didn't have such good highlights available (football league show).

10 yrs since my last trip back. <yikes> The night Delia came out the pitch with a young fella called Huckerby to confirm we'd locked him in permanently. Odd feeling watching on telly. Obviously I miss it but it's not just the game. It's the build up on the day and meeting up with friends for a swift one before or after. Only so much the internet can do.

Makes forums like this so good too to keep in touch with everything else beyond what Sky Sports have to report. Does mean I'm more a lurker than most tho. Happy Australia Day everyone.

I agree Hairy, nothing compares to actually being there, but things have improved considerably over the years, so that you almost feel as if you are, incidentally I just checked, and the last time I trod the hallowed premises was in the summer of 1997, :( when Craig Fleming was being interviewed just after having joined.
