Come on guys - Relax !

Cabaye is a French international, got a lot more finesse on the ball. Yes he is Unproven for now, but I am fully confident he will be a tioteesque signing and it will be Nolan who? come Xmas time.

    Please Keep the Faith..

Nzogs coming home !!! New strikers !!! these are actually exciting times not worrying ones, trust in the Stripes.

Correct, if we haven't signed anyone else come 1st of September then we can protest all we want, but I have a feeling we have a fair few quality signings on the way in.

Cabaye or Nolan? If it aint broken don't fix it, Nolan top scorer last two seasons from midfield and a great leader and captain. Cabaye unproven in this league.

so start the season with Nolan who say for arguments sake can't score for toffee, gets exposed every game due to his lack of pace and agility. We are in 18th at Xmas - then bring in someone new?

Pardew worked with the players in training everyday - clearly he thinks Nolan isn't 'all that' if he is willing to let him go - Cabaye is young, full international - and seems like a nice guy ! actually thrilled to be here. announced it on tv before even Cwarr07 knew - haha

Nolan, obviously. Has anyone seen Cabaye play more than 2/3 games if that? More importantly has anyone seen him play in the EPL? Sure he may be good but people are just going off hype *sigh*

It's clear he doesn't make the decisions mate, Carrol was sold despite Pardew insisting it would not happen. He wanted to keep both Nolan and Barton and they'll probs both be off too. I heard he wanted to sell Shola too but Ashley overruled him <whistle>

How do you know N'Zogbia is coming? For me this Nolan situation could affect us attracting players like him, they will look at us and think to themselves they will be sold in 3 or 4 years when they are past it. Hope im wrong.

Why is Nolan being shipped out with 2 years left...............perhaps another £50,000 a week guy wanting his pension.

Get the young flair players in.............Nolan was good in the box but so is Giggs!

We'll have to wait and see how the season pans out obviously before we can judge. Nolan is 28 but has the legs of a 35 year old, what happens if, as Shearer's raised arm pointed out, Nolan goes through a patch of not scoring what else does he offer to the team? Don't forget he still had 2 years to run on his contract and he was offered a new deal but chose not to sign it, allegedly because he wanted a longer deal.

IMO if Nolan knew he was still good enough at this level he would of either waited out his contract here (which is probably better money then he will get at WHU) or wait for another EPL to come in for him (surely they would of done considering his goals return last year)
He is reaching the twillight of his career and given his dwindling fitness levels he will retire alot sooner than many others.

One thing that seems to be overlooked by those who think we can't find a midfielder who can replicate the 12 goals Nolan scored last season is this. He is only credited with 1 assist last season which is quite frankly rubbish for a CM.

Cabaye may not get 12 goals next season (but on the other hand he might!) but I am sure that his goals plus assists will be in the region of thirteen. Does it really matter who scores the goals so long as we get them?

I also have more confidence in Cabaye's overall contribution to the workrate and defensive duties of the team.

Surely a good team with football knowledge retains the likes of Nolan and add the likes of Cabaye? We need to get our heads out the sand, these guys are clueless. The scout is finding good players and they are dismantling the current team Pure stupidity. Build on what you have, oldest and truest adage in the game.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the point of signing Cabaye was to add depth surely? A midfield involving Tiote, Barton, Nolan, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Gutierrez and Gosling is one capable of pushing for the top 7. Amazing squad depth in there. Add a winger and two striker and the only thing missing is a rock solid defence. But take away Nolan and you have a weaker midfield (obviously). Before this saga, I'm pretty sure everyone would have agreed that if players were to be sold that it should be: Perch, Routledge, Xisco, Smith, Ameobi/Lovenkrands. Something along those lines. For me, until those were sold we shouldn't be looking to raise money by selling our captain

Agreed! I've said on most of the Nolan threads today that i'd rather we kept him as part of the squad strength and that if he is sold he needs to be replaced. Competition for places is what we need.
