Forgive me for being a cynical owld bastard but the only thing UEFA are interested in is making money. There was nowt wrong with the UEFA cup as it was. They created the Europa League purely to make more cash. Imagine this scenario, we go to Wembley, win the cup but get relegated. We then have an extra 8 league games to play as well as the qualifying games for Europe which start in July. If irc, Boro played something like 22 games when they got to the final. That's a lot of games to ply in a season, plus the domestic cups. Flying out to far flung corners of Europe to play Omsk Walrus Farmers or some other equally **** team. The early rounds are ****e & English teams usually play weakened sides. It doesn't really warm up until the Champo League flops drop into it which is another thing that gets on my thruppney's. "Oh well, you were ****e in the big one but you can have a go at this one, **** those clubs that have got this far, nobody cares about them." And what's it all for? Not the prize money because it's ****. UEFA have a habit of ****ing things up but with that knob Platini in charge is anyone surprised?
I approve of this posting. The good ol' days of the three European Cup Competitions were the best; one for the league champions (the number of champions being, erm, a very singular one), the Cup Winners Cup and the UEFA Cup which was the poor man's plater.
This is what the fans would like , however the fans opinions count for nothing. It's money that matters to UEFA.
Good post Billy. Some important points there. I couldn't give 2 ****s about Europe! I'd only be interested if we were a strong top 4 team, and that ain't happening anytime soon.
