We don't really have any other options though and its a catch 22 for figgs imo does he need more game time to try and get bsck to his best or a rest?
Very true on all points. Imo, Time to try out the likes of Sam Topliss Ben Clappison and even Mac Clark. Why not and if they are good enough.......
Proschwitz will be playing today, Tickler has inside knowledge, and Proschwitz is being kept just for the FA cup. The back 3 at Palace is McShane Bruce Davies, again thanks to tickler and his inside man. So I can save both rosey and Figgy starting today and them playing a bit part role with each other on Tuesday, with probably Rosey starting and Figgy coming on if/when he tires.
I'm pretty sure it's going to be... ---------Harper Rosie McShane Faye Figueroa -----Quinn Meyler Boyd ---Proschwitz Long Jelavic
A chap on the Southend board seems to think we're showing the competition a lack of respect by not fielding our strongest team. Given our second-XI has some quality players who should be able to tear them apart (Boyd, Quinn, etc), and which comfortably beat Middlesbrough in the last round, I'm not sure how that works. I'd be more concerned if I were an Arsenal or Man United fan, and our players didn't have any experience of playing at old-fashioned English grounds like Roots Hall. I still think 2-2 though.
As we're playing the strongest team we can, given the bigger, season long picture, aren't Southend showing the same lack of respect by, like us, also not buying a better squad of players?
It seems odd now reading all this with Southend regarding us as the big team these days when at one time I use to look forward to the 'big' team from the old 1st division getting beaten at BP, we have come a long way since then it indeed. And I would like to add that what Erik said about fielding weaker teams against lesser opposition was the type of thing that was levelled at the 1st division teams back then. Throw in a couple of lesser players, give them a tryout, maybe reserve team players, maybe young lads, its always happened.
Feeling a sense of pride and tingling with excitement this morning. Who'd have ever guessed 10 years ago that we'd be going into an FA cup 5th round game against one of Lancashire's top, top teams and our coach is having the selection problem of which two from Proschwitz, Jelavic and Long are going to lead our offense. Play up you Hull!
