Steven Taylor

Could be a massive season for Taylor, with Nolan almost gone and probably Barton on his way out we're going to need a new leader on the pitch who shows the same amount of passion that they put into it last season.

I cant help but think that its finally time for Taylor to step up and possibly take over the captains armband, we know he has the loyalty, passion, the fact that he celebrates every goal he scores like we've won the league shows this.

I have questioned his ability many times in the past, but I'm really hoping this could be the season he rises to the challenge, stays fit, and becomes our John Terry.

What do we reckon?

 

was actually hoping we were going to buy a quality CB to partner colo this summer but doesn't look like it

 

He had some fantastic games at the end of the season; goal-a-game and several (non hand ball!) off the line clearances as well. Hope he keeps it up, and he'll probably feel more of a need to now that he knows it's possible for him to be replaced if he sags back.

I like the guy too, from what little I've seen in interviews anyway, he seems genuine.

 

If he keeps up his form from last season, he'd be my first choice captain every day of the week. The only thing is, you need to pick a captain before the start of the season. If Barton does go this summer I'd happily give Stevie Taylor the armband.

 

I don'r think we have any leaders left if we get rid of Nolan and Barton. Colo is too quiet, same with Tiote. Tayls would be the obvious choice but his ability(bramblesque concentration) and fitness record rules him out in my eyes too. We need to buy one or two born leaders in my opinion!!

 

Maybe the likes of Colo, Simmo, both Taylor's, Shola etc... might have to stand up and take over

 

If he keeps up his form from last season he'd be the leagues top scorer.

 

that's the question can he keep up the level of performance would love it if he could but got my doubts

 

Ideal really then, we wouldnt miss Nolan's goals. Then again, the reward for doing well at NUFC is to be sold or sacked so we have to hope he isnt that good next season.

 

Colo for Captain IMO, he's an ever present in the side and earned his shot in the last 2 seasons, he's passionate - remember his volleyed goal !! Love this human

 

The only thing going against him is the fact that his English isn't that good at all, i'd rather have a captain that i could understand than one that's just flapping this arms about and not understanding a word he is saying

 

How many english players will we actually have in the starting lineup though? haha

It's time for Steven Taylor to stand up and take the armband. He's got a long contract, is now at a mature age and if last season is anything to go by he could be playing better than ever before.
