Being overtaken by PSG and City in the rich list is about as surprising as night turning into day. What would be more meaningful is a financial list of clubs who have generated their own profits rather than had them artificially created by having billions pumped in

    ...generated their own revenue...

But yes, when Chelsea were Celebrating their revenue last year, it was like the owner had pumped in 500M in order to make 250M. I'm astounded that we are getting as close to them now as we are.

I really believe that PSG increased their turnover by 180% in a year. The term creative accounting springs to mind

That's why I used the words profit and meaningful.

As both you and Cym point out, generating a big increase in revenue by pumping in loads of cash to artificially create that revenue is a bit disingenuous to say the least.

Do you think pSG will get away with it? If they do,
FFP may not be the saviour Arsenal and other clubs hoped it would be

I don't know - I feel like Arsenal have more or less given up on FFP and are just trying to get as big as they can get.

The more billionaire owned clubs in existence the more diluted the effect and the less successful they are. There are only so many players that can be bought and deliver instant success.

I don't think Arsenal are looking to FFP to be a saviour, we're top of the league without a sugar daddy, so it proves that we've earned out success.

FFP isn't going to reverse what Chelsea, City and PSG have done, it will simply prevent any other average club from doing the same in the future.

I've just said, it won't really affect city and Chelsea now as they've used the sugar daddy money to boost their revenue streams. What it will do is prevent other mid table clubs from doing anything similar in the future

as for Arsenal, we earned our place at the top and didn't need an injection of cash to artificially propel us to the summit.

You both still make massive losses, let's not forget you just announced a 50 million loss yet again, in the last 10 years you have had 1 year when you made a profit, and that took you winning the CL to achieve that. PPF is about your overall net spend, not how much money you make, you could make a billion pounds a year, but if you are spending 1.5 billion it is still not great is it?

The only reason city and Chelsea will be fine is because UEFA bottled the original plan and added in a load of exceptional cost that would not count, the original idea was that clubs should not spend more than they generate, period, with no exceptions apart from youth, if that were the case both city and Chelsea and PSG would be screwed.

Do you think you will balance books this year... after the Ozil and potentially Draxler purchases; along with likely early CL elimination

    They will be.

I have a feeling the football world and the Arab world are going to fall out big time in the coming years. The Arabs believe that chucking money at everything will mean football bends over for it. The World Cup in Qatar being moved and disrupting century old football traditions for the sake of a few quid will not go down well nor will any attempts by Citys or PSG's owners.

PSG nor Citys made up sponsorship deals will count towards it.

City wont ever make a profit either, not unless the prize money for the 4 competitions is doubled and they win all 4 every year.

If that ever happened then I feel we'd see this.

The (insert sponsor here) Premier League not including Manchester City.

theres are a handful of club in Europe who hold all the power, not one of them has any time for City or PSG. Chelsea being an early adopter of the billionaire club have managed to sneak themselves into the elite group. They would be first in line to have City or PSG removed just so they can impress the big powerful clubs.

I have no doubt the big clubs are petty as ****, and they would do anything to put a stop to the toy clubs.

I think you'll find that we bought Ozil from money we had earned. We don't do things like Chelsea or City who rely on a sugar daddy to buy them presents.

Last 16 isn't early, in CL terms. Making it out of the group stages, brings in a very decent amount of money.

Agreed. And on top of that it is not a forgone conclusion we will lose to Bayern. They only put us out on the away goal rule last season.
