The countdown to the digital launch of the McLaren Mercedes MP4-29, our 2014 Formula 1 car, has already started â join us here at 12pm midday (UK time) on Friday January 24 to catch our new F1 car as it breaks cover. Formula 1 cars are developed on the computer screen, in the windtunnel and, finally, on the racetrack â the truest test of performance and potential. Built from carbon-fibre, the best Formula 1 cars will harness every available surface of the car to create downwards lift (âdownforceâ), maximising the grip of the tyres through corners while simultaneously minimising drag. 2014 marks a technical sea-change for Formula 1, with the introduction of new, smaller V6 turbo-charged engines. So before we introduce the McLaren Mercedes MP4-29, take this last opportunity to acquaint yourself with our 2013 challenger â the MP4-28, the last McLaren to run to Formula 1's V8, naturally aspirated regulations.
Also take the opportunity to look at the last turbocharged V6 McLaren before turbos were banned, the MP4/4. The most dominant car ever made in F1. Two manufacturers dominated the turbo era, McLaren & Williams between 1984 - 1988. Can history repeat itself again?
Wow! I was never a fan of the chrome livery but it looks fantastic without the Vodafone branding and a bit more black.
I finally got into the McL site and there are 4 images but all from above or front. I wonder if they are trying to keep the side view a bit quite till Tuesday? I sort of like the front nose in a weird way. It does look very much like an anteaters nose, especially with the air grill.
In the first image on McL site there are two sort of cresent shaped bits on the inside edge of the front wheels below the brake ducts, any ideas what they might be?
