Are You Envious?

Simple Question.

Are you Envious that Sunderland, our biggest rivals are in the League Cup Final, with a chance of winning a trophy and thereby qualifying for Europe?

ME - WITHOUT DOUBT.

 

A bit but I'm happy with how our season is going so it's not keeping me awake at night.

Personally I would rather win a cup and go down than not compete for cups and finish safely top half but we all know where the money is and that's what dictates a club's direction.

 

Yes a visit to Wembley would have been nice.

No, not really. It's like asking if I am envious of Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City or Manchester United. To me they are Other Clubs.

Of the battering and very public humiliation no.

No. Who cares about just getting to finals? That's a small-time mentality. We've been to finals and lost, and it bloody hurt. I want to win something, not have a day out. If Sunderland win the cup then yes I'll be jealous. But not until then.

 

Not really, we had our chance but shot ourselves in the foot with a dire display against lowly Cardiff.

I'd have loved to get to Wembley but it wasn't to be.

So CDGH, I take it you've gone past the tribal instinct of someone like myself who sees Sunderland as our biggest rivals. They are just another football team to you, and I take it that the Derby next week is just another match.

You can't pick and choose who you play, and why even enter in the first place if it means playing the likes of Man City.

 

Totally agree. As long as we are happy to be amongst the also rans and take our place in a league designed to help the rich get richer, MA couldn't care less.

 

Hence why I said I'd only be jealous if they won the thing. The prospect of playing Man City in a final would not excite me - that's not really the word - because I'm something of a pessimist when it comes to football. Now if Sunderland were playing a mid-table premier league club say, or even a Bradford like Swansea last year, well yeah, then I'd be jealous right now, but as it is I don't envy them just yet.

 

Not for me, they will lose the final 99 times out of 100. Nobody remembers losing finalists, we know that from our own experience.

Would I like us to be in a cup final vs City (again one which we'd lose 99 times out of 100)? Yes I would as there's that one in a hundred chance we'd win. But would I **** want that final if it came with being joing bottom with two thirds of the season gone.

Fair play to them, but it's a fact that the day out is only enjoyable if you win. And they won't. City are a different animal to Man Utd, they want all four trophies, Sunderland will be facing Aguero, Negredo, Toure and Kompany etc at full tilt.

So in short I wouldn't trade our season for theirs to date. If they win the bloody thing then that's a completely different kettle of fish. Based on their opponent the assumption must be that they'll lose, and convincingly at that.

 

If we could be where we are with a cup final to go to hell yes I'm envious.

If we were 2nd bottom with a cup final to go to then nope, not envious at all.
