Yep, link him with De Bruyn not Mata. We are still desperately in need of someone to control and run the midfield, have been for 3 years.
I know this is a main bug bear for you CP but who does this for City? Matic is essentially a Yaya type so will aid steel and drive to the midfield. But there are only so many Xaxi's and Alonso's out there. As I say, City cope fine without one.

Not just City. In many ways it's an outdate role when playing 4231. It's good for 433 but we don't play it.
I assume it will be Ramires and Matic first choice but Mikel would also work. Think Ramires adds goals and drive from midfield. I'd certainly only use Mikel in games where we might need to defend more.
Probably, but I'm still not a fan of Ramires in this formation. Too much reliance on him to pass the ball, which he isn't very good at! Hopefully Matic can sort out the problems and compensate for what both Mikel and Ramires are unable to do when playing alongside either of them.
