Anyone ever had wild rabbit? Have a resident group squatting in my garden, if they're worth eating might borrow the neighbour's crossbow and bag one or two, but I don't know whether it's worth it.
Ok, so that sounds good. Skinning them and preparing them for the oven sounds tricky though. I'll give it a shot.
Predation doesn't seem to be working, foxes and cats can't seem to catch them and they're eating everything and digging holes everywhere. Increasing in number too. One or two I wouldn't mind but a dozen? No.
My uncle used to go snaring them. Any time you went in his kitchen there would be a gutted and skinned rabbit/hare hanging up. We got their feet with the tendon hangin out the end so that when ye pulled the tendon the foot waved at ye.
Had rabbit pie but there was so much pepper in it I can only conclude that rabbit tastes like pepper. Seen rabbit traps in the fields in the fens, little metal cage with half a carrot inside. best avoided bunnies.
the ox tail was lovely, nice and tender and just fell off the bone. had it with horseradish mash. Never tried rabbit, was going to order it in a restaurant once but the mrs forbade it #bitched
Rabbit is a fairly mellow taste. A bit like chicken in that respect. Hare is powerful tasting and I couldn't eat too much of it. Did you know that, according to QI, a diet of only rabbit would result in your death via slow starvation.
So if you ate lots of rabbit and started wasting away you'd got to your GP and ask what's up Doc. Ah had spag bol the night.
