Hi Guys, Swans Fan in Peace. TalkSport is reporting that we've signed Caulker on a season long loan. I know he's been out on loan a lot but what is your impression of the lad? From what I've seen and heard he looks quality but I'd love to hear what the fans of his own club think. Best of luck for the Season ahead!
Afternoon Swan, You may like to get involved on this thread http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/55128-Stephen-Caulker or this one http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/53494-Steven-Caulker Welcome back to the big time
Thanks Shelfside hadn't seen the Norwich one. I'm looking forward to our match against you this season. Someone I work with is a life long Spurs fan so I hope there will be some good banter!
I dare say your travelling support will be up for some banter at the Lane Don't get to do the away days anymore but it will be good to have a new set of fans visiting! How do you think you'll do this season?
Oh we're always up for some banter I'd be happy to finish 16th or 17th but it will be very hard. Then again we get written off every season and always "over achieve" so hopefuly we will do that again and finish in the top 4
We're all excited about Caulker and a few wanted him to stay this season as backup for the first 11 but I think going on loan to you guys is the right idea. When he was on loan at Yeovil he played the majority of their games winning player of the year and only picking up one booking all season. As I understand he did well at Norwich last season too but moving up to the Premiership is a massive step and it's a bit of a sick on swim moment for him coming up. Glad to see Swansea get in to the Prem, my Dad's from Swansea although he's a Spurs fan as he lived in Tottenham for 5 years after leaving Wales. He's still not decided who he'll support when we play eachother next season.
The thing that's impressed me most about Caulker is his attitude. He goes into each season showing gratitude to the club that takes him on, a willingness to learn and develop as a player and a desire to pay back the team for the chance that he's been given. It's an all too rare maturity and humility that some of his peers could do very well to embrace. Walker appears to show the same hunger and I don't think that it's a coincidence that they've been the two that have come on the most through their experiences in the lower divisions. David James was fairly damning about loanees in general, but gave Caulker a glowing review: http://www.guardian.co.uk/global/blog/2011/mar/27/david-james-loan-players Bristol City fans raving about him: http://www.otib.co.uk/index.php?/topic/136815-steven-caulker/ While at Yeovil he won 4 of their 5 end of season player awards and at Bristol he won Young Player of the Year and was nominated for Player of the Year. I really hope that he has another year of progression and we have another Ledley on our hands in the long run. Big boots to fill.
He sounds like a bit of a Corker (thanks to Dona_mara for the idea). I hope that it is a done deal and not premature reporting from TalkSport. However whether or not he comes to Swansea he sounds like a great player for whichever club he plays for.
if he doesnt play for us which he wont then i hope you do get him for the season and he gets some good game time..i hear you boys play a bit like brazil?
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/bristol_city/9438750.stm I think the knee injury as it turned out, may have been a small blessing, as he was due surgery on an ankle at the end of last season. It would appear the surgery may have been brought forward. I saw him at the Lane when we were home to Madrid mid April and he was still on crutches, but things were progressing as planned. As ever its all gone quiet till this story, so its good he's being touted for a loan which must mean he's got the worst of the injury woe behind him. Good news for you I hope, as he's a very good prospect, comparisons with Ledders are not taken lightly here, but from what I've heard, its felt he's too good for the Championship...there again, that was said about Kyle Naughton! Having played in front of David James for a while, I'd say his opinion is more accurate than most. He helped with 10 clean sheets after he signed for BC, he's definitely one to watch.
Kyle Naughton got into the Championship Team of the Year and won Leicester's Young Player of the Year award, NSSS. He's still only 22 and while Walker may look like the better prospect, it's far too early to write off the other Kyle yet.
PNP, I know mate, what I meant was KN hasn't made the impact alot of people, myself included, thought he might after he first arrived, it even had Spurcat perplexed. He's 22 as you say, lets hope its not 3 more years of loans for Caulker!
