I'm not too fussed about Nolan going, I'm more concerned about the furore surrounding his departure. He's been replaced by both Cabaye and Ben Arfa and now it seems Gardner and Zogs are on their way. Can you really see Nolan getting much game time? Great lad, great professional but his fitness levels are getting worse at an alarming rate, he's on a canny wage and he turned down a new contract so thanks big Kev but you've done your bit. His goals have been crucial and no doubt he adds a great team spirit but he offers little else if we're being honest, if we replace him with a better midfielder and concentrate on getting supply to a decent striker then it seems like the right thing to do so onwards and upwards. If we sign Zogs, Erdinc, another striker and we manage to keep Jose would anyone be that bothered?

It's sad to see a talisman leave but he's served his purpose and the club is moving forward.

I'm not worried about loosing his ability!
But, team spirit will take a knock!
His goals will also need to be replaced! and thats not easy!

I agree, but the fact the club cannot get this done in an amicable matter that annoys me. Surely they could play it in a way so as to not cause the player and fan uproar we are seeing

Did you never wonder if the so called team spirit with Barton/Nolan etc might be unsettling the likes of Enrique? Barton has been far too vocal really and I wonder if maybe he and Nolan have too much say in the dressing room, maybe Jose is thinking "I'm a better player than these guys and they're calling the shots, what the **** is up with this club?"... Just a thought.

    Well said.

I think there were always going to be knee-jerk reactions as soon as one of our key figures did leave but if you step back and look at the bigger picture it does make sense. BUT he will have to be replaced, and I don't class Cabaye as a replacement as his addition was pretty needed. Again, lets just see how the transfer window as a whole pans out, IF we lose Nolan and Barton but gain 4 good quality players then I'd consider that a successful window

Worry about the team spirit and morale though. In the 2008-2009 season we had a team full of talent but a team full of ego's.

Hope we don't experience the same problems next season.

    don't agree.

I think we'll be hard pressed to find another midfielder that can get the goals Nolan can, that's also a leader on the pitch and clearly very popular and influential in the dressing room.
