Well done... The two gallon thin tin flimsies were unsuitable and replaced by the jerrican

Those were the ones. The changeover was made in 1942 when it was realised that the flimsy and leaky nature of the 'flimsies' caused an estimated 40% loss of vital fuel supplies - a loss that threatened the Allies' ability to even cross the Channel, let alone advance into France. They had their uses though - troops used them to cook in, wash and drink out of....
