Was it their petrol/water containers, forgot the name of them, the ones they had on the back of jeeps? I vaguely remember something about that too...

Those were the ones. The changeover was made in 1942 when it was realised that the flimsy and leaky nature of the 'flimsies' caused an estimated 40% loss of vital fuel supplies - a loss that threatened the Allies' ability to even cross the Channel, let alone advance into France. They had their uses though - troops used them to cook in, wash and drink out of....<yikes>

I'll let you and Toby fight over the next question....

Ok - one for any Latin scholars amongst us, slightly cryptic -

An evil omen regarding a foot and a half long river horse provides 3/4 of an English word. Which word and what does it actually mean?
