According to the much loved local rag the EADT, young Titus Bramble is being lined up to solve our defensive woes. The 32 year old is currently training with Town and is a free agent after being released by Sunderland at the end of last season. Titus has played in the Premier League for 13 years after leaving his beloved Town during the 01/02 campaign. Another former Ipswich legend, Kieron Dyer, is also being considered as our Midfield is crying out for a play maker that can provide the key to unlock those mean championship defences. It is understood that Titus could well play in the team against Reading at the Weekend and a shock return for Dyer is on the cards so long as he passes a stringent medical. The physio has already provided Dyer with some boots and if he manages to untie the laces without getting injured then he will be a starter! Meanwhile Marcus Evans has been seen visiting a local private hospital to undergo Open Wallet Surgery. Apparantley it will be a highly complex operation that carries the very real risk of fatality!
Also, Mick was seen at Crystal Palace's U21 fixture earlier where a certain Owen Garvan was playing.... The Titus rumours have been rumbling for a while and gathering momentum over past few days... would be a good addition to the squad, even it's just as back up The Dyer one though is a big surprise (if true) !!
I had hoped we were past this sort of short-termism and were building for the future(but the recent use of Lee would seem to indicate otherwise).
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO to Titus. I would rather try out a current under 15's player than bring him back. His lapses in concentration would scare the crap out of me. Garvan had the vision we need and I would like him back but he was never the fastest and we do lack pace aswell in midfield. It would solve one aspect of the problem but not everything Dyer - he would never be fit enough to make the bench Scouting Palace is probably a good idea as they had a massive amount of players who didnt make their 25. As long as Delaney is not in our sights!
I'd have Garvan (if fit) above Skuse any day - very similar players, but Garvan at least passes the ball forwards. Bramble - no thanks, a pointless acquisition. Will always be fourth choice CB.
Brilliant, that made me nearly spit my frostie's out. I wouldn't want any of these players back at PR.
I'd love to see what Mick could do with Garvan, who has undoubted quality on the ball, I'd have him above anyone in our midfield atm mind you I haven't really seen how he's played the past few years. I doubt there's alot in the Gabbidon story, he's in their team atm so doubt he'd come to us.
LMFAO what a load of ****e!! Lets hope all this is just press speculation, we loan out our decent youngsters and replace them with ancient hasbeens, still Micks the man!! NOT!!!
" I'd have Garvan (if fit) above Skuse any day " I wouldn't. Garvan turns slower than milk, cannot tackle or head, and has a terrible right foot. He's not very good in a midfield two or away from home. Garvan does however have the one killer ball, moment than can change a game for sure though. How many of these moments he has, I'm not sure. Spanish dear buddy, who would you like signing up !?
A) its rumoured who we are looking at - save your angst for if it does happen - we have all got over excited or over annoyed about rumours in the past who have failed to materialise B) if it is Garvan, hes hardly ancient C) I must be forgetting all those decent youngsters out on loan, especially the central defender and the midfielder! We currently have a RB and a striker out, who it could be argued should be in the first team set up.
Westy, i dont know as i dont get to watch games from abroad and lower divs, thats what scouts are for, now theres an idea, why not get scouts out watching players instead of just going for x wolves players or old x Ipswich players! Its not ****ing rocket science!! Strikes me as lazy!!
I think any problems that we currently have should be handled on the training ground and in the summer maybe bring in one or two new faces....the popular way of dealing with any problem is to buy more bloody players and I think that is lazy and as a fan I want to have a settled core of players that care about the club and want to be here, I know it's asking a lot but I would like to go back to the days when signing a new player was something rare and exciting rather than sweeping changes every ten minutes.
I'd quite like to see a couple of additions to the squad a playmaker CM and a RW but not neccessarily on loan unless it's with a view to a permanent signing as we did with McGoldrick last season. And then bring back Hewitt and start playing him or a couple of youngsters rather than bringing loans in, we might aswell blood them this season!!! I think you're probably right JWM about Garvan not being Micks type of player, Mick rarely (if at all) goes for a creative player in the centre of midfield, he prefers destroyers, workers or just keeping things simple but I actually think whilst he wasn't the best defensively he was harshly criticised on that side of his game mainly because of his running style. For example Norris rarely got criticised for the defensive side of his game yet for me one of the biggest things about defending is position, whether that be in defence, midfield or attack as if one player pulls out of position the whole team can be affected, Norris although tenacious used to do this all the time yet although you wouldn't say Garvan was tenacious by any mean, positionally he was pretty sound which was actually more beneficial to the team than running around like a headless chicken but winning tackles every once in a while.
Would we not all say that Wordsworth is actually a very similar player to Garvan in terms of style? For me the only thing I'd like this transfer window is to see a player who has a bit of pace and can attack teams running with the ball, whether that be on the left, right or through the middle. We are a side lacking in pace which doesn't offer us too many options when things aren't working for us
