Melbourne Heart are a team in the A-League and Man City have just bought them. The interesting and relevant part is strong speculation their name will be changed to Melbourne City FC. Perhaps someone could tell Allam that a club is going from having a marketable name to a name with City?
They also own the new MLS team that is going to start in NY next season. There have been lots of rumours on ESPN that they are going to buy Xavi and Ibrahimovic. Uh and it will also have city in the name. New York City FC.
ESPN addressed that and said that Man City believes the future is the MLS. They want to make their new franchise the premier club in the US. The yankees are also part owners of New York City FC. They basically want to turn it into the equivilant of the Yankees. If you believe that the MLS will ever become a top US sports league than you can see why they think that. Our athletes make more than any other and if they make the same amount as some of our baseball players you could see $500,000 weekly salaries drawing the worlds top players. There are already $100,000 weekly players in the MLS who wouldnt make our starting line up. Personaly they wont sign either of them. The MLS will continue to draw more and more talent in. Maybe in another 10 years you might see top talent going to the MLS in their prime rather than at the end of their careers.
New York City fc, what a jam hot name. maybe someone should run along to the local FA and register New Hull City fc, just in case.
I bet Melbourne fans are up in arms about this, just ****ting on all the history, heritage and identity that goes with the name on a whim. I feel for them because I can relate...
Its going to be FC. I am pretty sure that other teams here are called FC as well. Edit: here are the FC teams and there will be a SC team when Orlando starts in 2015 as it will be Orlando City SC. FC Dallas Toronto FC Seattle Sounders FC Vancuver Whitecaps FC New York City FC (2015)
