Mata is a good player, but if the reported 45m Euro price (about £40m) is correct. What price Suarez? If the price is correct then I think it reflects the desperate times at Old Trafford rather than the players true value. Before Gerrrez moves this into the "Transfer rumours" I put it up as a separate thread as I think the transfer rumours thread should be reserved for LFC rumours
This. Also, good signing, but wrong team. Don't know how he fits in at utd, central mid and defence is their problem.
This. Sometimes you have to scroll through 3 pages to get to anything Liverpool related I think he's good value in Jan for 35mil considering the situation at Man Ud. I'd say 40mil isn't too bad in today's market, he's 25 and a proven player in the PL with quality. I wouldn't be too happy though if we shed out 40mil for Mata - but Utd are in dire straights so it's kind of understandable. But I have to agree, it's the wrong position they're strengthening!!!
A wanted and happy in-form Mata is defo worth £40m. However, would I pay £40m for in the current circumstances? Simply put, no! Then you can add Man Utd's current state of affairs into the equation and I think the money could have been spent better. Least they'll get £25m back in the summer.
But we have been shocking in this transfer period so gotta fill it with something, also keep discussion going on what moves other teams make helps create moves on maybe what we need. I don't know, really don't want two seperate transfer threads as inevitably they all talk about the same thing. Mata for 40 million...... hmmm maybe not that good but when you see Ozil go for around that price and Mata is prem proven and really good prem proven you can see why it can jump like that. Plus the whole selling to a rival thing probably bumped it up. I thought United did things the right way and never bought their way to the top..........
If he is the difference between Europe and no Europe then he is worth €45 mill. Once you fall out it is hard to get back in.
A good player no doubt. Is he worth that? Well, performances and where United end up would be the deciding factor on that one. One thing it does show though is just how little Mourinho thinks of United at the moment. If they were in 3rd palce, would he even contemplate selling Mata to them? No chance, so obviously doesn't see them as a rival this year and probably not for the foreseeable ones going forward under Moyes. Be interesting to see how they fit RVP, Rooney & Mata into the team though. Think they may have the same sort of problem we have as trying to find a formation that will get Suarez/Sturridge/Coutinho in the team with them all playing in their best positions without weakening other areas of the pitch. He's also cup tied from Champ League so would have thought that would knock the value down a bit.
He's a very good player and I'd be happy if we jumped and matched any bid but I think we have to be a little more cautious and spend that kind of money better. A good example would be Costa we had a bid of 16 millionish accepted unfortunately it was bad timing and he wanted to stay. We need to do that again get a player at the right time and price. Us buying Suarez is another good example. Utd fans will love the Mata transfer but they will be less happy in the Summer if they don't have the money to bring in the 3 or 4 players that they need.
