Discussion in 'Newcastle United' started by 5 Goals 1 Hat Trick 11 Heroes-NUFC4LIFE, Jun 15, 2011.

?

Is the Nolan deal good business or madness?

  1. It is a discrace

  2. I'm very disappointed, but worse things could happen

  3. Its seems not bad business, due to Nolan Attributes

  4. Its a good deal!

If we finish high up the league, all those complaining about him leaving will have changed their tune

If we get relegated, all those saying selling him was a good idea will have changed their tune. Can't deal in ifs.

Good. For all the talk of team spirit, thats what this whole Nolan/Barton love in is. Yes, they are senior members. Yes they had good seasons. But if they dont want to sign contracts, sell them!

Shola has some disturbing images of Mike and Derek 'in flagrante' in the board room using Dennis Wise as an anal probe <whistle>

I appriciate fully what he did for us before people kick off
But time to move on ... we have already and have been linked with better players than nolan that can help us progress further than he can

Tiote Cabaye Barton Ben Arfa - can all play his posistions and are all better

    £5m good business for me

Im with OT on this one... not overly arsed about it! As long as he is replaced with quality and we carry on making signings.

All well and good, but the players we've been linked with and bid for so far haven't wanted to join us.

If it's 4-5-1 with Barton, Tiote, Cabaye, Ben Arfa and Another then, IMO, you'll struggle to score enough goals over the course of the season, which is why selling Nolan makes no sense if you're going 4-5-1, that's unless you've got your eyes on a goal scoring midfielder??

The worst thing is losing his captaincy and leadership which has been very important for us in the last 2 years.

Bartons off. Joses off. Jonas is off according to Joeys latest tweet. Hughtons team, the first team who have actually shown some passion since Sir Bobbys, is being torn apart.

Is anyone actually surprised by this?!?

You've got to think he's currently on around 60k a week and he's 30 towards the end of this month. He's struggling to last 90 minutes as it is and he's only effective behind the striker. Put him in a 4-4-2 and he's not good enough, but was getting games due to captaincy / lack of other options / lower quality of opposition whilst in the championship.

It looks like we did offer him a contract, but he didn't want to sign it and now we've withdrawn it he wants to go. 5 million is great business for a player of his age who won't be able to cut it at the top level for no more than two more seasons.

Signing him on for another 2 / 3 years on top of the remaining two on 40k + a year is something I would have expected someone like Shepherd to do, but it's clear that Ashley is looking at the big picture. Why sign him on for another 4/5 years when the likelyhood is he will be finished in two. We made that mistake when we signed Alan Smith and slowly, but surely Ashley is starting to get it.

Move him on it's a great bit of business for us, Nolan gets to be West Ham's new hero and idol and is reunited with Fat Sam and we get great memories of a good servant playing at his peak rather than grumbling about how his legs have gone in 12 months time
