You mean we can't get Wigan away? That's a damn shame, always a cracking game with a cracking atmosphere, will have to hope we get Wednesday then

Don't worry, I guarantee we'll get Wigan on a rainy Wednesday at some point during the competition.

That's if we don't get knocked out by a big team before then.

    Like Brentford. :emoticon-0120-doh:

Dont really buy that, the league cup has been going a long time well before I was a kid but I always remember the FA cup been a huge event when I was a kid so cant see its the league cup affecting the FA cup.

The devalue of the FA cup has probably got more to do with money and therefore the league as everybody seems to place more importance on league position than the FA cup

The League Cup is the reason we can't have winter break - instead of playing league matches midweek, allowing us to take a couple of weeks off at Christmas, we alternatively compete in this meaningless and unappreciated mock up of a competition. All it does is wreck the season of teams who do well in it; the 4 teams in the semi-finals (West Ham, Birmingham, Arsenal and Ipswich) all went on to have ****e seasons.

Shame we don't get a bye into the 2nd round this year, it would free up a Tuesday night for me (although I haven't been to a League Cup game since the Chelsea match a few years ago.) Bradford or Wednesday away would be good, any other game and I honestly couldn't give a ****

Think it would be safer to play them away.

Wouldn't mind Bury - Gigg Lane is just up the road, or Accrington isn't that far either

I was just guessing what the guy who made the original point had actually meant, that's why I used the question mark.

Couldn't care less, I want a playoff/promotion campaign this season, so any way to pick up unnecessary injuries and/or bookings/suspensions is unwanted. I might change my mind by the time we get to the 3rd Round of the FA Cup and be saying we could do with a Cup run, but that'll be due to circumstance changing rather than hypocrisy.

Walsall so I can go visit old uni pals. Failing that, Accrington, Burton, Shrewsbury or some other pants team we can actually beat. (But saying that, not as good as Brentford)

A good local game (Wendies, Bradford etc), would be the only way to draw any sort of crowd in. Other than the night we played Leicester (were they premier league or championship then?) at Boothferry Park in 2002 which ended 4-2 to Leicester in a thrilling game, the league cup doesn't really hold that many memories, and it isn't called the micky mouse cup for nothing.

Crystal Palace when they were Premier League was a serious night to remember, sadly didn't make the trip for the return leg which was probably even better. Struggle to remember any other league cup memories. Liverpool games I guess, though we got a spanking (ditto Chelsea a few years ago).

I didn't attend those games as i only started going to watch city in early 2000, but heard they were all good games to watch. It's no coincidence that some of the best games have come when we were lower down the league, unless you get quite far in the competition the magic wears off when you get higher up the leagues. You can't blame the Burton Albions, Accrington Stanleys and Aldershots of this world wanting to do everything they can to have a dream tie against Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal etc but it doesn't have the same feeling when you get higher up the league ladder.
