or boxing clever? No brainer for me this. Proven, get him in please! http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/10954158._/ http://www.westlondonsport.com/qpr/...an-rhodes-of-blackburn-rovers-football7471121
I read the report by WestLondonsport and didn't have any idea Rhodes's scoring record. Knew it was good but didn't realise it was that good. Maybe he just had a bad day against us. It's a definately YES from me.
Thats the only time Ive ever seen him play bad, it was funny some were using that as an excuse not to get him. Zamora cost 4.5m and loads in wages which is all written off. Rhodes will cost about the same because he wont be on 50k like Zamora. SWP cost us even more. Plus we will get the money back or make a profit if we sell him. Its an investment and better than throwing 4m away on a 30yo has been because we will never see that again. Insane.
Blackburn over payed for him in the first place, he isn't proven at the top level so shouldn't have fetched 8mill, now they want 10mill or more for him and I can't see it happening. Begs the question why we didn't put a decent offer in for Wells? Can only hope there is someone else lined up, that Ntep isn't an out and out striker so I hope they don't try and pass him off as one if he signs to keep everyone happy!
They overpaid for him and he was worth about £5m then, hes worth about £8m now as hes stepped up even further. Just think of what hed be worth if he could keep up that scoring rate in the PL.
I would like us to get a striker from one of the premiership clubs on loan who is as good as Rhodes. Quite a few of them about who are not playing regularly
I think we have to face facts that this is going to go down to the wire again and we will probably see a player running into LR at 10:35pm on the 31st who has not been mentioned in any of the rumours. I don't get too stressed about this. They have to play the game of showing interest in a good few players so that if the selling club try to play hard ball on price then TF and PB can say, fine, have just as good a player we are also in advanced discussions, so we are not going to pay your silly money requirement.
Having seen Remy playing I can't believe we managed to bag him for 9 million?! He's surely worth a lot more, but Jordan Rhodes is no Remy, he might make the step up but then he might not. If we pay the 8 million and he fails, then people will just say we haven't learnt from our past mistakes. If he does make it fine, but I'm glad the club aren't willing to pay over the odds and are being more cautious.
£8m for a proven French international or £10m for a player who is unproven at the top level. I'd love to see us get Rhodes but is he really worth that much? If we go up and he can't cut the mustard we're left trying to cut our losses again.
Irrelevant whether he’s worth £8/£10m or not. A club in Championship should not be spending that much on one player. Also any player getting signed for that sort of fee will rightly expect big wages 40/50k+ Line has too be drawn somewhere in terms of spending and these figures have over stepped that mark.
Completely agree. At the end of a successful season maybe but not while we're in the mix with no guarantees. I agree with other posts that say we should have made more effort for Wells but there are times when we need to be realistic and let the odd player go despite thinking that they might be good or a decent investment.
If he does make the move up the PL and doesn't score more than 8 or so goals in his first full season his price will drop right down...
