Morning, troops. Fair action today and I’ll nominate:

Arch Villain (2.30 Lingers Park) – a most progressive stayer who has won 6 races including 3 last term. Now a 5YO I would expect a big year from this one now that he has matured and hit his peak. Was in sound form towards the backend of 2013 and I can see no reason why the old boy can’t carry this level of performance into the New Year. Is a course winner so obviously likes old ‘Leafy’ Lingers whilst the extended distance, of 16 furlongs, holds no fears as he has won over such a trip in the past. Meanwhile, on official figures comes out of top (if this was a handicap he would be conceeding weight all round) and I think current quotes of 7/2 more than fair. If we were still in panto season I’m sure The Arch Villain triumphing would result in a load of boos and hisses but let’s hope instead him obliging leads to the prolonged cheers of my regular readers.

    Good luck all.

Boil - Ive tried lots of different bets purely for interest, so small stakes, 1st 3 paper favs, 1st 3 favs, 1st 3 topweights, following a jockey. Dettori in the 1st used to be a fav. 3 shortest price favs at each meeting.

These occasionally give you a return but lose more than you win. The only way to win is to do the work and hope the results reflect it.

As I don't get to watch the racing midweek I now put a line on for the afternoon and pass the time with small stakes on the dogs at lunch.

You cant bet on everything unless you bet small and are prepared to lose so picking your bets is defo the way. <ok>

But its a pass time for me and I spend less than my colleagues do on their lunch n coffees!!!

]I like Grendisar except that, on pedigree, how can he stay 2miles? The sire was a sprinter and sired Moonlight Cloud and the dam is by Mark Of Esteem out of a mare by Barathea. I would also be worried about the in form Mr Burbidge. Given the odds from Oddschecker (attached), and that it should go to one of the top 4 in the betting, this looks a good race for a hedging bet.

    Capture.JPG

    Grendisar 11/2 2 points (13)
    Mr Burbridge 13/2 2 points (15)
    Theology 5/1 2 points (12)
    Arch Villain 3/1 2 points (8)

If yours wins Barney I get my stake back. If any of the other 3 win I double my money.

PS I haven't made an allowance for a springer. Could be a mistake knowing me.

I have them with 3 other horses on trebles, fourfolds and a five fold. If I had known last night when I placed it however just how much they were fancied I would have had singles and a double as well as I am now reliant on at least one other winning to show a profit. I took the prices once I spotted them so got decent enough odds.

Thanks Rudebhoy, I actually had put in Low key as well last night but not due to relating it to the two Irish trained horses. Bookies sweating on Kempton now it seems.
