Not sure why that's particularly silly money - seems quite reasonable for a match winner. He's a cut above the average player who goes for, say, £25m; plus enough clubs are genuinely interested so that the price has to go that high.
Sure. With Clyne Astori/Fonte Lovren Shaw at the back. We're only a couple of players away from being an exceedingly good team. Maybe even a great one.
Ustari to Sunderland, I thought he was supposed to be quite good. Not gone well in Spain, money problems, or blinded by Sunderland ambition?
You have misunderstood me, by disregarding the punctuation in my sentence. Not 'a cut above the average player, who goes for, say, £25m' (note first comma), but 'a cut above the average player who goes for, say, £25m'. So in other words, I'm not saying the average price of a player is £25m; but that Mata is a cut above any of the players who are in the pool of players who go for £25m - let's say, Erik Lambela, just as an example (£30m, I know, but he is in the general pool of players), Schurrle, Soldado etc. They are the average level of player who are in that price bracket. Don't think anyone would argue that Mata is an improvement on all of those, especially in this particular league. Infact, if they cost that money, then who would begrudge an extra £8-10m or so to get Mata? Is of course a separate debate that says that those aforementioned players are all overvalued and their fees were silly money - but then that's true all the way down to the cheapest players. The market is relative, and because those players are in the £25m pool, Mata is easily in the £35-40m bracket.
Why do people assume Defoe is stupid? He's actually one of most switched on players. Sent from my RM-914_eu_euro1_337 using Tapatalk
Slightly more than two, I would contend, but I take your point. When I said team, I meant first 11. Not 25 man squad, club, or any more than 11 plus bench.
OK, Toronto/USA may have been a slip, but DeFoe has never struck me as one of life's great luminaries. BTW, can you turn off the Tapatalk message..? It's not a request, I'm actually curious to know if it can be done.
Oih..! Stop putting words in my mouth just because you know that's what I meant. And apologies to saintgreg10. I can only hope he sees the original.
Guillem Balague reporting that Juan Mata will be a Manchester United player. Fee agreed at 45m euros and terms agreed.
The Telegraph are breaking news that Chelsea have accepted the bid for Mata, whose medical will take place tomorrow.
Breaking the news that Balague broke two hours earlier? I've lost track of how many times you can break something before it's no longer breaking and is just broken.
Hey, Balague just broke that he would be a United player, The Telegraph broke that he was having his medical tomorrow with personal terms already sorted. Broken. :/
Chelsea to use the sale of Mata to fund the purchase of Mohamed Salah, beating Liverpool to the player.
