Discussion in 'Newcastle United' started by 5 Goals 1 Hat Trick 11 Heroes-NUFC4LIFE, Jun 15, 2011.

?

Is the Nolan deal good business or madness?

  1. It is a discrace

  2. I'm very disappointed, but worse things could happen

  3. Its seems not bad business, due to Nolan Attributes

  4. Its a good deal!

Not winding anyone up here, but football is a funny old game.

We sell someone or are linked to selling someone, its all Bruces fault, Quinn, Walton, Short can do no wrong

You sell someone and its all Ashleys fault, never Pardews.

i just find it rather funny tbh how we both blame different personel for what is esentially the same thing.

If he's prepared to step down to the Championship again he's not worth striving to keep when he's going to be ****e in a few years anyway.

Would of liked him to 'see out his contract' like he said he was going to though.
Yes Ashley has accepted an offer but at the end of the day it's down to the player.

The majority of the team we had this season were CCC winners and EPL mid tabler's .. and although we'll miss the goals, and possibly some of the unity from Nolan (although that's subjective unless you've been in the dressing room) .. I, personally, think he would be snuffed out this season by most teams .. onwards and upwards means change I'm afraid .. can think of other players I'd rather not lose above Nolan.

What worries me most is losing our captain, and one of the most (if not the most) influential member of the dressing room. Our widely reported 'team spirit' was what kept us up last season in my opinion, and the way things are going there doesn't seem like that it will be there next season.

£5Mill for Craig Gardner who got 8 goals from midfield in a Brum side that got relegated. Hate to see Nolan go but opens the lines of communication between us and West Ham re: Ba if say us and Everton make matching offers hopefully West Ham more likely to accept ours as we flogged them Nolan, a good thing seeing Mike Ashley sacked Fat Sam so he probably isn't too interested in dealing with Newcastle.

I'm not too bothered either to be honest. Cabaye will fill the gap to some extent and we are linked with other potential replacements. I'd question selling him for only
£5m rather than hanging on to him for the remainder of his contract but i'm willing to show faith that Carr has identified a decent player to take his place.

I'll be worried/annoyed if he leaves and isn't replaced though.

im not happy about this, simply because of the 12 goals. HBA will need to have a rip roarer start to the season for me to be more settled about this, plus there is the unity factor with the team, he seemed to be a big character off the pitch with the rest of the team aswell.

Agree with this, no need for a knee jerk reaction.

After all this is a 2 way street, Nolan DOESN'T have to agree to this and if it's a decent price Meh!

Just shows a lack of ambition that he spoke about to achieve things at SJP and he's basically wiped 2 years off his career by taking a step back and down a division.

Don't get me wrong I don't want him to go, but it cuts both ways for people start beating on MA etc.

At the risk of being lynched...

Judging by the players we're being linked with/signing... where does Nolan fit into that type of team? Perhaps he just doesn't fit into Pardew's vision?

He's not the most mobile. Yes, he gets goals and I do like Nolan, but it seems there is a lot more planning going into the team than we're giving Pardew credit for.

You're all quick to slate Ashley, but Nolan refused to sign a new contract... and that was probably because we couldn't give him assurances that he'd play all the time.

    Just a thought.

Agreed hugely. 90% of posters here didn't even have them in their formation porn diagrams last week and now its a nightmare we're getting a pretty decent fee for him. If this assists any transfer for younger, better players than its a good thing. Give Steven Taylor the captaincy, replace the players that go and keep building. We've let Butt retire, we're happy to get shot of Smith, Nolan and Barton will be exactly the same in a year or two so if one wants out and we can get a good fee, why not?

And if it turns out to be bollocks, we've still got him. No panic!

Whilst it's a strange move, lets be honest, none of us know exactly what's prompted this or why the club have decided to sell.

    There are key factors here....

    1) Nolan has 2 years to run and turned down the clubs offer of albeit an 'incentive' based contract.

    2) He said he didn't want to drop down a league.

    3) He claims he isn't motivated by money.

    4) He is our Captain.

Now, IF he's gone there will be more to it than has been reported, so before everyone jumps on the 'Let kill Mike Ashley' bandwagon (Tash) then lets wait for everything to come out.
