I'm big on openness, and can't think of any reason to doubt her sincerity yet, so I'm happy. If John Williams gets on the bus then will be very optimistic.
It didn't come over as the usual business nonsense...nice touch of warmth and acknowledging the fans and their desire to know stuff.
Not it terms of the club's relationship with the fans, no. I can't say I was displeased with anything else though but, like the majority on here, I have no idea what went on behind the scenes.
Fantastic and just what we needed to hear. Apart from the short term "business as usual" message, the other strong pointer is that if she decided to sell, she would only sell to improve the prospects of the club, not just to get her money back. Reading between the lines, it also seems that her and Cortese might have only differed on acceptable corporate governance, not the direction of the club.
Come on guys, she sounds nice enough but there's very little substance to this message. It reads like one of those classic politicans' speeches which sound all comforting and reassuring, but leave those who know enough to see through the spiel wondering "well what the hell are your policies?" I'm not being anti-Liebherr here, but this hasn't opened my eyes to anything. She's just said a lot without actually saying anything.
What else can she say? Without putting in a couple of hundred mill and buying Bale back, what else could she do that would convince you? Even to be able to make a statement such as this shows she knows what this club is about.
I disagree. She's basically said that she cares enough about the club to do whatever is best for it. It also opposes 90% of what's been written in the media over the last week, about her wanting rid quickly etc. Even if she still wants to sell, we now know that she realises this project meant a lot to her late father, which we never knew before.
I don't think that there's anything she can say in the short-term that ought to be sufficient to convince people that i) we're on the right track, or ii) we're doooooomed. The convincing will have to happen over a period of a few months, as we find out exactly how this translates to action.
I think you are missing the tone of the piece. I sense she understands what we feel, even if she doesn't feel quite the same. I think we all want someone interested in the club in a warmer way than just as a business (which it undoubtedly is).
Totally disagree. Admittedly it did not state that we are going to spend money in January on a pacy CB, but this is not written by a politician and she doesn't need anyone's vote. I think it speaks volumes.
At very least to me, she seems recognises the relationship between SFC and her father. Nicola also said he got great pleasure from it. I hope this ensures that when the day that Katharina decides to pass the club on to a new owner, we get someone sensible and safe. But... I am very happy with the statement. She has hinted at things she was not happy with and has targeted for improvement, namely... - Communication with supporters - Respect and hard work - Respect for traditional values - Bringing some smiles to the staff Whilst reiterating a desire to pursue... - 'The Southampton Way', thought by many to be a Cortese gimmick - The best interests of the club - The best interests of the club's supporters I can cope with that. Lets just see what develops from here, but hey, the "Southampton in turmoil" line could clear off now.
I don't really care what went on behind the scenes. Cortese helped us to have one of the greatest times in our history. The way Cortese ran things maybe different then how KL wants to run things but it still worked. As for KL, that was a good statement. She has stopped all my negative thoughts since Cortese left. That's hope she can carry on ML and Cortese's great work. If under her ownership we can do half of what they did I will be happy.
It's not her job to convince me with encouraging-sounding speeches. We'll learn whether or not she is doing a good job for this club in time, by her actions. There's a reason Cortese never communicated to the public the details of what was going on behind the scenes, and it's the same reason Liebherr isn't doing so now. They've just got different ways of not telling us anything.
Have to say I'm impressed. If she's not interested and wants to sell why bother sayinthing to us fans,
Nicola Cortese was 100% the type of person we needed at that time. We were on our knees, disregarded and unfashionable. Now we are well-respected again, admired for our philosophy and rapid rise. He gave a this club gives no ****s about anyone that isn't to do with where this club is going now, and it worked. I have a lot of respect for what Nicola did for this club, as did Katharina, seemingly. Well, by her "wonderful job" comment on him.
Completely agree . She spoke for X amounts of minutes , but didn't actually say anything ...............
As Joe also said, she's had her say and Nicola has seemingly had his (albeit via some press articles). The proof of the pudding is in her action. I'm also keen to see if Mauricio's attitude shifts. Last week he seemed a bit, well I'll stay because it's the right thing to do and if you want to know any more than about my immediate future, speak to the owner. He might change his tune, lets wait and see.
I think it was pitched perfectly. It shows she is bothered about us and the staff. I think she realises that assets to a business like a football club are the staff (non playing) and the fans. No fans = no club. No day to day staff = no club. Playing staff and management are important, but there is more to the club than that. Markus taught her well I also think that if we look at this without trying to read too much into every word, we must be the luckiest bunch of fans in the world. Almost bankrupt, a moral, caring billionaire takes over, installs a positive chairman with a vision, bankrolls him, makes provisions when the worst happens and he dies. His daughter then takes over when she feels the chairman is getting too powerful with her money and commits to us like this. If I wrote a book about it you would say it was far fetched.
I'm just going to give her time, she has started well. I am a start of trusting then if you break that trust that's it kinda guy. That's just see how it goes.
Exactly right. She's done nothing wrong yet so the least people can do is give her the benefit of the doubt until (if) she does.
