I set off to Oxford tonight with a spring in my step and a song in my heart. That song is called "We want Powell Out" Interested to know how The Regulars see tonight's game in terms of Powell's future. If we lose tonight to League Two opposition, should Sir Chris get the Spanish Archer (el bow) in your opinion ?
No. The decision has to be taken on his record in the League. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs a dose of realism. Oxford Knocked us out of the Cup when Curbs was manager, as did several other minnows, we're a crap Cup team whoever the manager is.
Well said FHB. You know what my answer to this question is. As an aside, there's an article by Henry Winter in the Telegraph on the start of the first Pro-Licence courses held at St George's Park, in which Powell is taking part. There was a session on how to deal with press conferences, and Winter's comments on Powell were: . I'm not necessarily putting that forward as another argument in favour of keeping him, I just thought you'd like to see it. The whole article is well worth a read. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ctures-at-St-Georges-Park-worth-the-wait.html
I expect we will win against Oxford, but defeat would prove nothing. Many here might see it as a blessing, given our pitch problems, thin squad and likely fixture backlog. No other manager worth his salt would be interested in the Charlton job until the present administration fog is dispersed. We would only get applications from the usual merry-go-round of journeymen who would then have a valid excuse for failure in that it was "not their team". Only the other hand, if RD already plans to instal his own man (almost certainly a Belgian or other French-speaker) then he will go through with that as planned and our results under CP will have no bearing, whether good, bad, or indifferent. I don't think he is a knee-jerk reactor nor do I think he cares a damn about what fans and the media say. He has his own ideas, he is convinced he is right, and he will follow them through.
Interesting comments, but surely we are approaching a tipping point? A defeat tonight would be humilating, given that we have now won one in ten and our pitch resembles a scene from Kojak.
Not in the Cup though. What I'd like to know is whether the players still have faith in CP's tactics. When I watch Charlton defend I can see a pretty well organised team, but when we have the ball I see a team which is hoping something will happen. I just wonder whether they are following instructions.
this is getting boring. questioning SCP after every game. we've had it hard the last year and half. our pitch has gone to pot and it affects how we play, our previous owners let the squad deteriorate to such an extent that we're now on the brink of relegation. neither of which is SCP's fault. last year he had options, he could change our tactics because he had a bigger squad with different types of players. this year we're thread bare - again, not his fault. as much as 90% of cafc fans are bored of hearing the questions about SCP, the ones questioning him are probably bored of hearing that his hands are tied. what we do know is that the pitch cant be improved till summer. we know any major rebuilding wont happen till summer. he probably wont be given a new contract or fired till the summer. what we also know is he made steady progress until the last lot went broke. he will do it again given the chance. what we also know is SCP has been so restricted in what he has to work with that of course he'd take players given the chance, no matter who they are. if players were oxygen he'd probably breathe in a fart if he was offered the chance. it would be nice if people just supported the team till the summer when we'll know more instead of putting one of these up every game.
This!! We often go out to lower league opposition. Parky survived Northwich for gods sake. The questions will still remain if we win too, but at the moment, we can't even tell if he's getting in players he wants (got a pretty shrewd idea he is'nt mind you!) so it's pointless to speculate how much of this is his fault. What I do think is we need to see a bit of money spent and the squad strengthened.
Good post Sat In Greenwich His hands have been tied, just as Parky's undeniably were under Murray, yet how many of "SCP" supporters used the same logic to protect Parky..? Hypocrites! The hero worship CP receives from a section of fans is somewhat embarrassing, but so are the knee jerk reactions, and insults others throw out after every defeat. I want to see what develops with loans/signings with this new owner, and if it appears that CP gets fair backing but doesn't improve things, then it's time to think about changing.
Now, the question is, should CP be guaranteed a managerial slot for, say, the next two years if we beat Oxford? Volly.I hope you are singing his praises as I write (and maybe sipping bovril meantimes!!)
