Anyone ever looked into theirs? I have always fancied doing this just to see where my mental state originates from. I know it is on my father's side where it is hereditary.

Be very interesting to see where one comes from. Or of course it might be completely dull as **** on the other hand. Might be related to a complete bunch of nobodies and just carrying on the trend.

Is it expensive to do this? Or shall I just wait for Fiona Bruce to come calling when I am famous?

My cousin traced the Swiss great-grandfather's line - two saints and William Tell. Exciting stuff eh?

If you went back a thousand years, let's say an average generation is 25 years so that's 40 generations or 2 to the power of 40 ancestors:
    2^40 = 1,099,511,627,776

    Conclusion: we're all thoroughly inbred.

Some are more inbred than others though. There's a reason why it takes all day to get to Norwich, from anywhere in the country.

I holidayed in Norfolk (and narrowly avoided death by helicopter): peace and quiet and lots of decent pubs doing really nice food and ales, might move there one day.

North Norfolk (try saying that in the local accent) is pretty idyllic.

Is it weird that I have absolutely no interest? My mother complains because I haven't phoned her in about 4 years, **** my great grand father.

My family's all over the place so it would be too much like hard work. I'm pretty sure my grandmother on my father's side came from a family of pikeys and her birth certificate looks like a fake.

My mother's side of the family were huns. Huns for ****'s sake!

Aside from the fact I'm terrified what I might find I do actually agree. What my great grandfather did 100 years ago isn't going to change how my life might pan out tomorrow or the day after so what's the point?

The only reason I'm intrigued in it is I'd like to have known what drove these folk of whom I'm the result of a randy moment somewhere.

I like the idea that folk think they have a cultural identity only to realise that it's pretty much impossible to have the genetics of that actual identity.

I like the thought of Who Do You Think You Are's equivalent in 300 years time - showing some woman a Vine their great great great great great grandfather sent some slag in 2013 of him ripping the heid aff it and listening to Tiesto.
