5 minutes ago @SAFCsource Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie are losing their battle to be fit for Wednesday's Semi-Final. http://thetim.es/KzlVKx ‪#‎SAFC‬ David Moyes wary of risking Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie | The Times Manager is prepared to give his first-choice strikers every chance to prove their fitness for the vital second leg of Manchester United’s Capital One Cup semi-final thetimes.co.uk
David Moyes' difficult debut season at Manchester United could be dealt a further blow in Wednesday's League Cup semi-final second leg. Moyes' men have been off the pace in the Premier League, going down 3-1 at Chelsea on Sunday to leave the defending champions seventh, while United were also knocked out of the FA Cup at the first hurdle by Swansea City in a poor start to 2014. The UEFA Champions League and League Cup are Moyes' only realistic hopes of further silverware this term and his charges will need to come from behind to progress in the latter, having been beaten 2-1 by Sunderland in the first leg at the Stadium of Light. A Ryan Giggs own goal and Fabio Borini's penalty handed Gus Poyet's men the upper hand a fortnight ago and Moyes will be desperate to add the League Cup to the United trophy cabinet - the Scot has already won the Community Shield - and lift some of the gloom around Old Trafford. United have lost four of their last seven home games in all competitions and will likely need to be on top form for the visit of Poyet's men, who have lost just one of their last 10 outings. Despite Sunday's setback at Stamford Bridge, Phil Jones remains confident United can salvage something from the club's season - starting on Wednesday against Sunderland. "I don't think we're a long way away from the teams at the top (of the Premier League)," Jones told the club's official website. "Now we have to bounce back and we have an important game on Wednesday night. "We're not a million miles away, I'm telling you, but we need to stick together if we're going to turn it around." One of the main threats to United's progression is likely to be former Manchester City winger Adam Johnson, who has five goals from his last four games. After scoring a hat-trick against Fulham a week ago, Johnson was Sunderland's hero on Saturday as he netted the equaliser against Southampton in a 2-2 comeback to earn a point and make it four games unbeaten. Excluding an unlikely West Ham comeback, progression for either side would set up a final against Manchester City at Wembley, with Sunderland eyeing their first League Cup success and United their fifth. Despite never having won the competition, Sunderland have reached the semi-finals on three occasions, making the final once back in 1985. Ex-Sunderland footballer Gary Rowell MANCHESTER United with home advantage might be the favourites to get to Wembley in the Capital One Cup, but Sunderland go there with a one goal lead, backed by 9,000 passionate fans, and that evens things up for me. The atmosphere will be amazing and it doesn’t get much more glamorous than a cup semi-final at Old Trafford against the current Premier League title holders. By their own high standards, United are having a disappointing season and their home ground isn’t the fortress it used to be, having lost five games at home already. Even so, the United fans will turn up tomorrow night expecting their team to get to Wembley. They are used to nights like this. It’s what they do. And David Moyes’ team will be expected to deliver, with no excuses. Sunderland on the other hand are not used to nights like this and the players have the opportunity to write their own history. The chance of glory is within touching distance and a trip to Wembley would be a massive boost for both the club and the fans in a season that has been so disappointing in the Premier League. I hope Sunderland don’t go there and just sit back on their one goal lead, as that would be asking for trouble and a dangerous tactic. We’ll have to defend well, yes, and for long periods, but if we can nick a goal, all the pressure and tension would be on United players and David Moyes, who is coming under increasing scrutiny. Sunderland’s away form has been good recently, better than our form at the Stadium of Light, so they have absolutely no reason to go to Old Trafford with any fear. The big talking point from the United camp has been the fitness of Wayne Rooney – will he available or not – and the answer to that could have a huge bearing on the night. That’s out of Sunderland’s hands though, all they need to do is go there and enjoy the occasion, give absolutely everything they’ve got, and no-one can ask for any more.
Looking at this Man U fans are not up for the game, lets hope it rubs off! http://www.redcafe.net/threads/manchester-united-vs-sunderland.382707/page-2
No not a lot. It seems strange to see them in such a mood, but good for football in general, showing that the old gaurd cannot always assume that they will always be at the top.

Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic has had his claim for wrongful dismissal rejected by an Independent Regulatory Commission. Therefore, the player’s three-match suspension commences with immediate effect. Vidic had received a red card for serious foul play in his side’s game against Chelsea on Sunday 19 January 2014. http://www.thefa.com/news/governance...eal-overturned
