Its not being patronising to Cardiff at all. its comparing a club owned as part of a group of companies to a club owned by an individual. I could have easily chosen Chelsea and Roman Abramovich as an example , but chose Cardiff as they are similar to us as a recently promoted club. There is the world of difference between the governance structures required of a company owned by an individual and that of one owned by a rich individual. I apologise to any Cardiff fan who feels I am being patronising.
Markus was a rich man and was generous to us with money needed to fund a return to the PL, but was never going to throw endless money at us. Too much money can just mean too much wasted money. Much as I would like Saints to win the title, I would feel uneasy if it involved silly money which lost us our personality as a club. Blackburn got a title, but it was on foundations of sand.
Southampton is owned by an individual just as much as Cardiff is. If anything more so, as Cardiff has several shareholders and we don't.
depends what MARKUSLIEBHERR means. http://companycheck.co.uk/company/06951765/DMWSL-613-LIMITED/group-structure Tan is 51% shareholder which is greater than any individual shareholder we have as of the last annual return. http://companycheck.co.uk/company/0...OOTBALL-CLUB-HOLDINGS-LIMITED/group-structure
Does that mean that Katharina was a 50% owner even when we were first bought? Makes no difference, but interesting as we didn't know that.
No it was 100% markus a year ago, i'm sure (it certainly was from the beginning). i only checked again when cortese resigned. remember annual returns represent a change in shareholding up to a year earlier than the made up date, so it could be over a year since the change. the only way to find out is pay a quid for the annual return.
Indeed, Tan owns a majority share so he can do whatever he likes. But presumably as Markus is now dead, Katharina owns the entire company solely. Either way there is nothing about the company structure of Southampton that could prevent what Tan has done to Cardiff, should the owner so wish (which is of course highly unlikely).
as I said, it depends on what markusliebherr means. the shareholding has changed since his death but his name is still there. does he have a son or a grandchild named after him? it could even be a trust
It could be a change of direction of the club, or a change of direction in how and who makes decisions. The direction of the club could be the same Joe, just with different decision process installed. We don't know yet really why Cortese went and possibly won't so it is all speculation until actions start. Actions speak louder than any words, written or spoken. We'll have to sit tight and wait.
I know that KL has told everyone now that the club is not for sale but with all the rumours going around and NC's departure. She could be just steadying the ship while they secretly finding buyers for the club. The club maybe be available for the right price etc
There are no words that can't be twisted by a football fan...sometimes people mean what they say. At this moment, I am not planning to sell the club...seems straight forward to me.
I think that it's sad that when a person who has supported the club for some while as it's owner and makes a statement, that her honesty is questioned. I also think that some of the personal comments regarding her appearance are unfortunate to say the least. KL has not courted publicity and has done nothing but good for the club, including writing off over £30m leaving the club debt-free. Worry if you want to, but I am taking her at her word. No sale, no players leaving, on the same course as before. Doesn't sound too terrifying to me.
As I said the other day, I will take her at her every word until she breaks it. She has not done so yet. Only when she had broken her word would I become more sceptical of what she says to us.
